You know, I think you are right, I was looking at this page: https://bg3.wiki/wiki/The_Wizard_of_Waterdeep
It says "Gale can be persuaded to turn over the crown to Mystra...SpoilersSpoilerSpoilers." At first I read that and thought I must have been forgetting a check or something, but I think it just means "persuade" with dialogue choices.
You might be right! Well, from the sounds of things you are going that route anyway, so no worries, eh. Have fun! I enjoy Gale and his questline.
Using the crown properly to bypass the limitations she place on the Weave and to rise to godhood might as well be something she wants for one of her favorite chosen. Gale would not be the first one to rise to godhood. "Seeking forgiveness" might be just the easiest way out you can choose.
Well unless you are specificaly hostile to Mystra she does not particulary mind Gale been the new god of ambition.
Mystryl was chaotic neutral. Next incarnation aka the first Mystra was lawfull neutral. Current incarnation aka Mystra ( Midnight ) is neutral good.
The first two versions did not had very pleasant personalities. In fact lawfull Mystra was haughty and obnoxious if anything. Gods can grow.
