Patch 8 Progression
Will I have to restart my playthrough? Can I continue playing my current character when patch 8 releases? Will I miss the new sub classes/content if I do so?

Are you using mods? Yes, most likely, very high chance you have to start over.
Are you vanilla no mods? No, you will not have to start over, official patches are always build to let players continue their previous saves.
Are you missing subclasses? Yes and no. You can always respec (be aware, you cannot change race or background) .

No, no mod. I like playing the game the way it is.

No one knows but the track record for previous patches is that you will be able to continue playing your current vanilla playthrough if you have one going.

If you use mods. The answer is no.

I stopped playing BG 3 after patch 7 and will return once patch 8 drops, I got tired of my games wiping out from the updates (yes, I have mods)

If you use mods, the answer is MAYBE, it depends on the mods and their compatibility.

Even if you have ones that are incompatible, they might well be updated for compatibility, certainly within a week or two of patch 8 release.

As stated above, you should be able to respec any character to take one of the new subclasses in an existing playthrough.
