I dont understand DnD at all
As much as I dislike Dnd I had to start another play through because I am drawn to Larian's craftsmanship anyway. I was looking at shadow heart and wondering why the 'F' do clerics get so many spells. She is more decked out than my wizard. and she does it all from healing to damage to summoning and protecting. Why so OP? Am I crazy?

Produce Flame says hi
Ah right, forgot about that. Still crappy damage, though.
1d8 scaling with levels, which is in line with others & also doubles up as Light as well. Firebolt is 1d10 without the light, EB is 1d10 but warlock only by levelling & poison spray is 1d12 but is save based (& a common resistance).

To be clear I'm not saying it's top tier but it's far from crappy. Sacred Flame is indeed complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ though
Clerics had cause wounds spells all the way back in AD&D. And higher levels of clerics began to get nasty things like flame strike or Harm/Slay Living.

On TT, Clerics don't get to *choose* their spells. They get what the DM gives them for that day.
That's completely inaccurate.

"Preparing and Casting Spells
The Cleric table shows how many spell slots you
have to cast your spells of 1st level and higher. To
cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of
the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended
spell slots when you finish a long rest.
You prepare the list of cleric spells that are
available for you to cast, choosing from the cleric
spell list. When you do so, choose a number of cleric
spells equal to your Wisdom modifier + your cleric
level (minimum of one spell). The spells must be of a
level for which you have spell slots.
For example, if you are a 3rd-‐‑level cleric, you have
four 1st-‐‑level and two 2nd-‐‑level spell slots. With a
Wisdom of 16, your list of prepared spells can
include six spells of 1st or 2nd level, in any
combination. If you prepare the 1st-‐‑level spell cure
wounds, you can cast it using a 1st-‐‑level or 2nd-‐‑level
slot. Casting the spell doesn’t remove it from your
list of prepared spells.
You can change your list of prepared spells when
you finish a long rest. Preparing a new list of cleric
spells requires time spent in prayer and meditation:
at least 1 minute per spell level for each spell on
your list.

Admittedly, it's not the clearest mechanical description I've ever read, but nowhere does it ever say anything about your DM choosing for you. In fact, it explicitly uses the words "You choose."

And patch 8 brings new cantrips, 2 of which is useable by clerics.

Special mention for high elf and high half elf clerics, they can choose Booming Blade which plays well with Tempests
https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Booming_Blade
Special mention, it doesnt scale with int.

Edit: Just strikes me that its a good reason to play a Tempest as the player character as you can only pick Booming Blade for a high elf upon character creation as its not changeable at withers.

this is absolute rubbish. Clerics have access to all the spells for their level, but are limited by the number of spell slots they have and what they prepared. Any DM that tells a player "you can only use the spells I tell you" is abusing their position. They are not wizards that have to learn their spells. This is stated in the PHB.

I think its dumb that they even get summon spells though. that seems totally non cleric to me

How come? D&D clerics have always been able to summon stuff.

Swint is definitely mixing up something. Mass amounts of animate dead courtesy of clerics in Baldurs Gate 1 was instrumental to downing Drizzt and yoinking his goodies.

Clerics got animate dead much earlier than mages.

ngl would be kinda fun for a while with a good GM. If a GM said they wanted to pick what spells my cleric recieved every day, aligned with the God I followed, I'd agree to it.

You already get spells aligned with the domain you choose.
Edit: Same as the Paladin, they get specific spells aligned with the oath you choose.

another thing is I dont have to choose the spells, it just dumps them into my pool without having to make a choice. My wizard doesnt automatically get spells though? why? What does that even simulate? Do clerics just wake up oneday knowing how to make skeletons attack their enemies while wizards have to learn it all from scrolls and such? I'm just saying my clerics spell pool makes my wizard look like a novice caster. he doesnt even have a scroll bar

yeah no ♥♥♥♥.
Medium (mebbe heavy) armor and shield proficiency + full caster + Turn/Destroy Undead on top of some of the best subclass features in the game?

Yeah, Clercs are OP, and the only reason Wizards beat them in endgame is because the spells in their spell list are absolutely game breaking.

You have the power of God(dess) on your side. Almost nothing else compares.

All divine casters get full access to their spell lists, but you can only prepare (have available at any one time) your lvl.+ Wis modifier.

Open your spellbook ('K').

That's the difference between Divine and Arcane spell casting. Clerics get their power through a lifetime of devotion and worship, their God grants them access to the powers God's have, wheras a Wizard must spend their lifetime studying, practicing, and memorizing incantations - it's a secular route to power. Sorcerers have the innate ability to cast spells, but it is limited, they cannot "learn" through study or rote, and Warlocks gain their power through a pact with a demon or devil, and is derived from eldritch energy.
