This game still has a lot of bugs
Ive played the game for 15 hours now. I have encountered numerous bugs.

  • Black portrait when leveling up a character (x2)
  • Items getting stuck to the cursor when trying to crl select several items in inventory.
  • Game getting stuck after using Invoke Duplicity.
  • Destroying spiderweb under a goblin in Blighted Village caused the goblin to disappear. No goblin or corpse when I jumped down.

I would kind of expect this from an early access game, but I am playing on patch 7. I really would have thought things like this would have been ironed out by now.

Its overall a good game, but the bugs detract from the experience.

That is the worse part of the hype and deranged echo chamber fanbase. It makes feedback on problems be actively ignored.
Most of the posts talking about the problems with the game are drenched in copium in all the forums that matter, and no one really cares about the Steam forums but ACTUAL indie developers.

It is like this because Larian is still adding new stuff the game. You add something new, a bug pop up from nowhere. Don't expect patch 8 will be better; some bugs will go away, new ones will appear.

hopefully you're reporting the bugs you come across via the official method so they can fix them

I only started this game some days ago and I have already encountered atleast 10-20 bugs in-game. Isn't the game 1-2 years old and still so many bugs?

I don’t use mods and I don’t have bugs. I don’t know if I am just lucky or my hardware is special, but this is one of the most bug-free games I own. It is pretty amazing when you bring in the level of complexity and sheer size into consideration.

Lucky, and likely not noticing said bugs. What OP is mentioning are quite... innocuous bugs compared to the more horrendous ones I've faced both while modded and unmodded for the game.

- Variant spells not showing the selection of type so you can't cast them (issue both modded, and unmodded for the game).

- Enemy bodies disappearing and not leaving loot bags after a long rest (goblins at the grove gate, I didn't loot them immediately so that I could speak with Arka, came back after doing a few things and a long rest, no bodies, so lost the Gloves of Power. Has happened with other enemies before as well).

- Delays in animations such as attacking any enemy, nothing happening for 2 ~ 5 seconds then suddenly the attack happens.

- Controlled character randomly falling through the map when pathing forward, killing them instantly.

Various other bugs. As large as the game is, as much stuff under the hood that needs to take place, I am more surprised the game isn't ripping itself apart from the seams rather than it having bugs at all.

They've fixed much of the more problematic bugs, but as a poster earlier stated; they are on Patch 7, 'bout to release Patch 8, as they fix multiple bugs, new ones get introduced. I do not know why gamers expect games this large in mechanics to come bug free, I truly do not know why that's an expectation.

Doesn't mean there is none. I found 5 or 6 during my playthrough, none of them game breaking (unless you play in honour mode for some of them). I even fall on one that is still there since beta testing and was never really patched. I reported one to Larian because I was able to trigger it 100% of the time. That one shall be easy to fix if they fix it on patch 8.

Everything you listed is also a symptom of not having a PC strong enough to run a game.

Maybe it's your hardware.

If you have actual bugs unrelated to playing on settings higher than your system can handle; report them to Larian via their website.

^ Aside from the Goblin disappearing, that all sounds like hardware issues OP.

I have a 5700X3D and a 7800XT. It's not the hardware.

I have had very little bugs. And all that I have, are not serous ones and the great majority of them can be fixed by simply saving and then loading that save.

This game has also been been very stable.

Maybe issues were added in patches after I finished playing and maybe I have a lens of perspective founded on Day 1 EA, but I didn't encounter game-break or enjoyment-reducing issues once I got a new PC in late EA (unless the wild changes in Act 1 count as issues, but that's something else entirely).

I even began modding near the end of my playthroughs.

The only bugs I found were a small number of quirks, most of them humorous and didn't impede my gameplay in any way.

I hope those with issues are putting in detailed reports. Those of us who aren't having issues cannot assist beyond general support responses.

(Personal note: "We shouldn't have to do that." Welcome to the 21st century. This isn't an age where developers released something and there was no going back. You have two choices: Go with the flow and have some control over your life or get dragged kicking and screaming into the modern days with no control over anything. It seems that many are choosing the latter. One would think younger generations would be more open to changes in society than my generation. Yet, they seem to be more demanding that things stay the same.)

Well I understand why, games back then had to be finished before release. People are getting tired of early access games. I can see why they want it to return to the same bug free games. Me? I don't mind early access games but we are getting a lot of that lately, so I understand why. Even I'm starting to slow down on early access games, main reason is most don't communicate with their community but only a small few. BG3 does at least by half though, but they are doing better then most big games.

Thing is these people aren't lying, I got this game around patch 6.9 before patch 7 and I had no bug issues until patch 7. I literally just ran into a few game breaking bugs, like Halsin quest to cleanse the shadowfell. He was stuck in a portal with no timer, I somehow triggered that by moving closer to the portal to protect it, just before the combat started. The rest of the enemies didn't appear, I fixed the issue by going back before I triggered it and decided to not move once the cutscene ended.

Then there was the crash issue with the Shar temple, I'm not sure why but grabbing the orb at leap of faith triggered it. I have a feeling it was because I killed a bunch of rats and didn't do something more with that quest, before I went to Shar's trials or it was just something else. I did use my alt key just before I picked up the orb, although it was just a reflex to press that. There is more but I forget the rest, but what this thread list has happened to me and I have no mods in my playthrough.

Also to clarify because people always ask, I did verify files and did every step to see if it'd fix the issues but nope. Even tried a fresh install and that didn't work either, cloud save was turned off too. I'll just ignore it for now, since I can't even do anything to fix it myself. I'll just wait for bug fixes.

Cant say i got too many bugs in my 3 runs but game does crash still which can be annoying if you forget to quicksave. Still its probably best RPG since New Vegas so you just have to suck it up i guess

At this point, most of the bugs seem to be of the hardware-specific kind. I haven't seen any on my rig in months.
