It's not really that hidden, specially for people who take their time to go through the game world and observe and talk to characters.

Found this on the first Multiplayer campaign, where actually we were all just chaotically walking around and triggering random stuff

Well if you always save Baelen, then you will never discover it.
All the more reason to kill Baelen. My difficulty with this "quest" is that, knowing what I already do. it's hard for me to remember to even "find out" by talking to Derryth and instead just jump the gun using my meta knowledge to go and take him out. I have a special hatred for domestic abusers and I get a kick out of taking his punk ass out.

That said, being able to rescue a kitteh (I do cat rescue irl too) makes it all the more tempting!

I just saved him, but this time got Noblestalk for the first time. Gave it to Shadowheart.

Should note if you give the noblestalk to Derryth, she will grow them for sale in act3, and able to sell multiples per day in her shop. Eating one is a full heal and restore.

Can you then purchase them and use them for Shadowheart?

Pretty sure the answer is "no". I think you have give her the noblestalk in Act 2 to restore her memory. But I could be wrong.
