How do companion approval work when using non player character?

My tav is in a different place, and my gale is talking to an npc. I pick a dialogue and game goes "astarion approves".
1. How will it affect relation score?
-obvious answer is my tav(and not gale) gets the score but I wanna be sure.
-What if gale would like the dialogue option but I'm talking using gale, will it not count?

2. How relation score work in regards to distance?
-if my Tav chooses a dialogue that a companion would like but is far away will I still get the approval? If no then what's the distance limit?
-I'm using no party limit mod so I'm assuming only 3 companions on the top of my sidebar will get approvals. Anyone else using the mod know if this is true?

I'm curious about this too OP.

I think, that if they are in your camp they don't get relationship points (positive or negative) but if they are in your party they do get it, regardless of how far away they are. WIth that said, i don't know about using a different character to make the choice. So i'm curious about this too.
