Tired of updates and hotfixes
Husband & I playing modded playthrough. After patch 4 controller UI broke. Creator of ImprovedUI released an update and the controller UI was fixed. After hotfix 11 the controller UI broke again. Thinking maybe there was a new version of ImprovedUI out we downloaded it. It turned out to be the same exact version. But now multiplayer no longer works even though we changed absolutely nothing.

I feel like we get updates every other day practically and for those of us playing with mods and for even those that don't it can completely mess up and even prevent gameplay. They "fix" 1000 things and cause 1000 different issues as a result. I wish they'd just give us a few months to play the dang game without making huge changes constantly messing everything up. It honestly feels like the game is worse bug and gameplay-wise than it was at release. I feel like giving up playing until they start leaving it alone.

Disable automatic updates or accept the consequences of modding. The devs should not cater to the tiny minority using third-party modifications and prevent the rest of the players from getting much-needed bug fixes.

Who prevents you from turning updates off?

I've only ever had a couple bugs which went away after a reload or restart. But I don't use mods (just started using them anyway). I will say the most bugs I've had were after patch 4 but they weren't game breaking, just comical.

Ignore the troll above (and dozens of them to follow). I share your concern - spitting into the face of the modding community - i.e. the very same community which is the only thing that can carry the game's longevity is a very dubious move from the devs. They should at least consider it - or start supporting it out of the box.

I realize that - being a modder myself - I have a bias here, but I laugh at those who ostracize people that mod their games. Big surprise: modding support = long-living game. Anyways, to your issue:

1. Disable automatic updates
2. Don't launch the game through steam (use mod managers for this for instance - or just the game executable)
3. Stick to 'what works", always. "Newer" DOES NOT equal "better".

I hope you fix your issues soon. If not = you can roll back to the previous versions on steam using depots.

Obvious question, but if you play without mods, does multiplayer work?

Its not larians responsibility to cater to modders, you have no sympathy from me.

It is not possible to completely disable updates on Steam, unfortunately. Steam checks for updates and tries to install them upon launching the game at best.

The possible solutions are to run Steam in the offline mode or to run the game from the exe file*. Could also wait for the support to be finished, but it will take at least a year. The least painful and most expensive option is to repurchase on GOG.

*There are some guides on how to keep several versions. Will try to find them.

Edit. There are links to other guides as well.

Do you want them to test patch builds with every mod permutation before they make the build public?

Yes. Never had horrible issues. On console it seems to boot your team a lot but I think that's all connection issues.

Of course not, that'd be silly! Just the major* ones.

*Major=The ones that person is using.

That's my guess, anyway. Maybe they'll prove me wrong.

This game doesn´t have official modsupport so reason to complain. I think most would agree that updates are a good thing and I assume most also can´t wait until all the issues are ironed out which will require more updates and hotfixes. Not a good time to play modded honestly.

You can run directly from BG3 Mod Manager and not have to update as well.

If you play with mods, you should know better.

I haven’t played for a week now as my laptop doesn’t have the 20 Gb space left for the stupid patch 4.

And steam forces the updates and doesn’t allow to play unless you patch even if you don’t have the space .

Sadly my laptop only has 250GB memory and 30% are already taken from windows and its drivers .

Even after deleting all other games and apps I am still 10 gb short so I am done with the game.

Not planning on buying a brand new laptop just to be able to update BG3 lol.

Seriously these 20GB forced updates needs to stop not everyone has that much space
