BUG FIX FOR: Beards/Facial Hair bein' all smudgy, ugly and weird.
Fix only works for DX12, not Vulkan

I was looking into it and it seems that the Anisotropic Filtering isn't working in the game.

The fix is fairly simple and can be done via your hardware settings software.

The following is a step by step guide to changing the settings for those who may not be as adept with their hardware.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are using Nvidia hardware do the following:

Open "Nvidia Control Panel" by right clicking your Nvidia Settings icon on your taskbar (taskbar by default but wherever you may have it).
>
Once open select "Manage 3D Settings" via the panel on the left. Located under "3D Settings"
>
Once in that menu select the Sub Menu "Program Settings" located next to "Global Settings" which is selected by default.
>
While in "Program Settings" there is option "1. Select a Program To Customize" select this dropdown menu and select "Baldur's Gate 3"
>
Once "Baldur's Gate 3" has been selected from the dropdown menu, there will be another panel "2. Specify The Settings For This Program." with a list of settings to select.
>
Locate and select "Anisotropic Filtering" (for me this was third from the top), once clicked on it should begin a dropdown menu, within the dropdown menu select "16x"
>
Make sure to APPLY Settings (it should prompt you if you do not) before closing.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This should fix the issue until it is taken care of by Larian.

I have no idea what effects this will have beyond fixing the beards, because I haven't tested it beyond fixing the beard and then making this thread.

If you're using a lower tier PC and you're not sure about setting it to 16x, you can try lower settings, it may work but I haven't tested it personally.

For AMD users
See Highlighted Response below.

Thank you for this, I have AMD hardware so I can't do the same fix as you, but at least I know what's causing it. I'll look into fixes for AMD.

AWESOME! My dark urge evil paladin now looks like a man's man with scruff, instead of a dude with poop smudged on his face!

This is the most useful post in the BG3 forums by far!

I recently tried this and it didn’t work for me. The beards look like crappy smuges.

I have two BG3 settings
1. Baldurs gate 3/bin/bg3.exe
2. bg3_dx11.exe
I did it for the top one and it shows the change in both areas.

So I just checked this on my end to see what was going on.

When I originally wrote this thread to help, there was only one option for which BG3 to pick. An update somewhere must have changed this.

The settings on BOTH my Bg3_DX11.exe AND Baldurs Gate 3/bin/bg3.exe have their Anisotropic Filtering manually set to 16x

I cannot confirm this; but I would imagine that means you should change them both, as both mine are highlighted as being manually changed.

Hope this helps.
