Tav and Lihala's Lute

Is anyone else having trouble with Tav playing Lihala's lute? They pick it up and the notification pops up with the song name and then they immediately put it back up on their back. I tried to use the lute on Shadowheart and she can play it, badly, but it doesn't just put the lute up immediately.
