question towards playtime (not a game owner yet)
so i wonder.
this game seems to have an outstanding rating and its pretty much only positive reviews.
but for what i can see, for an rpg in that kind of genre, the playtime from all players on average seems pretty low.
im someone who is looking for games i can sink in thousands of hours in different builds, min/maxing, starting all over 7 million times etc.
but it looks like that despite all the good reviews, most player stop playing at the like 50 hours mark.
which is very low considering that it is an full price RPG.
and i found like just a hand full that have like 500+ hours.
so is this game more like towards casual players and thats why the hours are so low?
(because it holds your haands and ou get everything really quick?)
usualy games like this have TONS of hidden bosses, loot, areas, etc you need to spend ages to collect or get there.
or does it simply dont have enough content?

even very old d&d games usualy have tons of players with 1k+ hours.

so my question would simply be:
can someone who is really into rpg's spend 1k hours in this game or does it fall of way sooner?

If you're like me and you like to go through every nock and crannyyou can spend over 100hrs in Act 1 alone. Act 2 is kinda shorter but Act 3 is massive.

Finishing this game under 100hrs merant you were kinda running through it.

you can spend 1k hours in literally any game, for example you have a lot of classes to play, finish the game with every class you have easy 1k+ hours. if youre looking for a distraction and a time sink this fits well, but youre still just repeating the same thing

You can sink 100's of hours into this. The reason most players don't have much playtime is because people in general have short attention spans, start games, then start another game, and so on.

A first run, if you're not rushing through it, exploring every nook and cranny while doing all the quests, should take about 130 - 150h. Mine was a total of 152h, for instance.

this is just false, you have to go WAY out to spend 100 hours. i guess if you go through every single character and their dialogue and every single container in act 1 you could probably spend 100 hours in it, but you could also pick up an item, throw it on the ground and pick it up again for 70 hours to fill that 100 hour mark wth equally exciting gameplay

i completed the game sub 100 hours while exploring every single explorable area and i was refusing to progress before i had seen everything. except act 3, it was a burden to explore fully

My first playthrough was 160hrs and 100 of them spent on act 1.

The average playtime is average. Anything beyond 200 hours is far beyond average for any RPG.

im sure a lot of people spent way more in act1 than you, its still not a honest presentation of the game's contents, you can spend 100 hours staring at paint as well

Dude, theres a website to see the average, I spoke of my experience, stop discarding how I played the game.

If OP wanted a by the numbers average he would have fon on howlongtobeat.com.

Which by the way lists a main story playthorough at 88hrs average and a co,mpletionist one at 226hrs on leisure, which is what I did.

I would say that this game is more replayable than BG1 or BG2. I have about 1000 hours logged on BG1, and 500 on BG2. I have 500 on BG3 and I've only had the game for a few months.

This is never going to hit the kind of hours I have on Civ or Factorio or KSP, but those are different kinds of games.

Anyway, YMMV, but I don't ultimately judge the value I get from a game by how many hours I play it. Not all hours spent with a game are equally valuable or equally entertaining.

THANKS all for the replys.

and based on all the answers here in this post and after some youtube research, it looks like it is indeed a rather short game (for an rpg) , more suited for casual afternoon players.

so its a no for me at this point.
maybe in a sale in some years for 10 bucks or so.

whish ya all a good day.

nope rpgs are well known to be very lengthy anything under 200hrs is indeed a filthy casual imo ..and yes bg3 is a very casual rpg

No matter how true that is, it does not matter either to the people who only look on playtime hours. For that reason gems like Stanley Parable or even Portal 2 get downlooked upon. And countless of adventure games.

There are people who enjoy a movie multiple times and go to the cinema multiple times. And then there are people who are satisfied with just once.

lenght of the game doesnt make it an rpg, being rpg makes it an rpg. what are you even talking about
