1. Play a few hours to learn some basics then start fresh with your new know-how.

The SorLockFtr at time 33:40 You can build a Multi-class character that will help a lot.
4. Have a balanced party: You as the DPS Caster, Lae'zel as pure Fighter, Shadowheart as pure Cleric, and Asterion as the Thief. Use this build for Asterion:

The Ftr/Rogue at 18:39
5. You can multi-class and still play on Explorer. Just switch to balanced before leveling up or respec. Then when done, switch back to Explorer. Easy.
6. Explore, explore, explore. Look everywhere. Go down every path.
7. Arm everyone with the best Bow/Crossbow that they can use. You won't regret it.
8. Quicksave OFTEN. Don't be afraid to restore if you run into something that you did not understand. There is no DM here to help, so use Quicksave as a replacement.
Do pay attention to those two build guides as they will illustrate how to use the builds in combat. :)

9. Be SURE to turn Karmic Dice OFF. That is trouble you do not need. :/
Fighter.
Choose Champion at level 3.
Examining enemies gives you a breakdown of their ability scores and resistances, and various traits or abilities. Especially useful against bosses to figure out how to defeat them or any tricks or gimmicks the boss fight might have.
When you come to an area change that produces a pop up window select "No', Save the Game, look at your journal and map and then decide if you want to say yes.
Just pick something and play a few hours. Then start over over now that you have some idea of what you want and what you are doing.
========
When I started, I decided I wanted to play as a barbarian. I saw there already was one pre-rolled, so I played as her. I probably played about 4-5 hours, by which point I understood that a) I didn't want to play as a barbarian, and b) I didn't want to play as her.
So I went back and created a custom drow warlock, and played that.
What is confusing to you about that?
This game uses 5th edition D&D rules, which are extremely accessible and friendly to new players. If you're completely new to D&D this might not seem to be the case, but you would not want to start with the Pathfinder ruleset.

With the respec feature at Wither's later/early on you should have no issues. He does not even care if you steal your money back or just reload a savegame. He pretends it never happened.
