If I'm gonna play quickly just to play though her to the end why not get the most powerful weapon for her.
And anyway, I usually replace her sword with that legendary trident early in Act 3.
IMO this is an example of a Early Access exploit that turns out to be a negative in the full release. Another one like this was that in early access people found out they could attack the strange ox and get a magic ring. But what they didn't know is that would end up hurting them, because in Act 3 the strange ox will just give you that ring and also can be an ally to you. Since there was no Act 3 in Early Access, people didn't know that their "exploit" was actually hurting themselves.
In Early Access the sword just seemed like a great weapon for Lae'zel. Nice exploit to get the sword from him, right? They had no idea that Voss would be a big part of the later story arc for Lae'zel.
The drop succeeding is a low chance - think it was 9% for me last time, so a lot of save scumming is needed.
I don't understand those that say it effects the story later as I've seen no sign of that.
I killed that annoying merc in act 1 and his body disappeared afterwards, so I've been wondering if he's going to reappear anyway, too.
