Which is odd......there are no wands you can get except one that is broken?
I know it's a thing in 5e, but there are plenty of stuff they left out and/or adjusted for a better game experience.
In case of wands, they basically just removed a redundancy.
That, and they were in Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, and they are still in 5e, so there is no reason they should not be present.
For some reason staves are versatile weapons (I don't know how you wield a quarterstaff with one hand), so you can use one with a shield if you have the proficiency. I usually get Shadowheart the Shillelagh cantrip and give her one.
However, I end up drowning in scrolls anyway.
