Rage Impeded?
My rage is impeded even though I unlocked the "proficient with heavy armor" trait?

You can use heavy armor effectively but rage doesn't work with armor regardless of proficiency.

Makes sense since rage halves damage on top of whatever negation heavy armor gives.

Rage + Adamantite Scale Armor = win.

You sure you're not using the Plate version, which is noted as Heavy Armor in its description?

Barbarians can become Proficient with Heavy Armor like anyone else, but no amount of Proficiency will change that Heavy Armor prevents Rage from working. It's an intended limitation of the class.

Assuming it's following 5e rules, armor has 0 effect on damage. It just makes you harder to hit.

It makes for less math on a tabletop, but when your clothes wearing monk, leather wearing thief, and clunky heavy armor cleric all have 18 AC, it's a really silly mechanic.

Well yeah. The amount of damage you can withstand before falling is instead decided by your HP pool, which varies between classes.

Which I'm all for, but adding the AC on top of it is just silly and time consuming (talking about the tabletop, not BG3). The armors you get should add to your HP pool and attacks just be an automatic hit. Wayyyy easier, and wayyy faster.

Rolling to hit and missing isn't fun, for player and GM. It's just not very exciting. And there's a lot of it.

A lot of the heavy armors in this game have a flat damage reduction effect somewhere as an added bonus.

Do they? Not surprised, honestly. They've taken a lot of liberties with the system, and I can hardly blame them.

What? That would be really boring and remove a lot of roleplay/narrative opportunities.

Not really. I've played games where things automatically hit and it's pretty great. It's a lot faster and ruins absolutely 0 role play.

What ruins role play is trying to find a creative way to narrate that the combatants missed for the 6th time in a row. And to be completely fair, you run into a similar problem with spongy HP pools. And in 5e's case, you have spongy HP pools AND armor constantly making attacks miss. It's incredibly slow and where good narration goes to die.

If 5e is what you enjoy, that's fine. But I would highly encourage you try other things like Mausritter and EZD6. They're super easy to pick up and play.

I was amazed at what all was out there when I got away from 5e. I don't know why people stick to it and refuse to even try anything else.
