Reelly? A giant brain? Thats the scariest you could come up with...?
This reminds me of the rick and morty episode about the brains and I can't help but laugh.... the elder brain.... my gosh... it could have been something more intimidating looking or maybe not so stupid looking... but a giant brain? Does anyone else get a kick out of this? Oh my bad... it has tentacles ....:steamhappy:

Dude, elder brains are not to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ with in D&D. They were ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up people's day long before Mother Brain ever invaded planet Metroid or the Leader started harassing the Hulk.

well, its Dungeons and Dragons and the illithid biology has been basically set in stone for over 40 years. it had to be a giant brain, literally.

I don't need to chime in on the dump session here, good luck on the clown farm.

Who asked?

If you've never read about them they can seem kinda goofy I guess, but Elder Brains are pretty terrifying in DnD lore. Consider that the danger presented by illithids is psionics, and nothing surpasses the psionic abilities of the Elder Brains.
Tbh, when I played D&D I just kinda ignored the whole elder brain thing and just ran illithids as an independent race.

They have a terrifying stat bloc, yes, but I just find the whole idea a little ridiculous.

Rawr, I does teh Big Think dmg cuz I iz teh Big Brain.

Doppelgangers are far more terrifying.

Illithids and beholders were just Gygax's way to incorporate Lovecraftian horror into D&D.

I'm guessing he thought by clowns you meant the people posting. Not the OP farming clown votes or whatever it is for himself. :p

Yea they always came off as something you would put in a campaign written for children or something.

Being more scared of someone just like you than a giant brain capable of mind controlling entire populations is a take.

Whoa, now I sorta wish there was a doppelganger double of PC doing shenanigans and getting the police on you. Good main quest concept, "We'll Super Mario Sunshine, em!"
