If you kill him during the reveal you suffer the consequences. He's the only thing preventing you from being enthralled and turning into a Mind Flayer, Orpheus doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about you, the Absolute, or anything at that point.

So, you let him die and are expelled from the astral plane and get to watch your whole party be enslaved and turn. You got what you asked for, you removed the one thing preventing that fate.

That's all it takes. Before he reveals his true form to you he tells you that the command for you to transform has been issued many times already. Once he's dead there's nothing preventing the tadpole in your head from heeding the call of the Absolute and transforming you. His power is also preventing you from being effortlessly dominated by the chosen, such as Ketheric at Moonrise.

oh yes, i got it! im just saying if im forced by the game itself to choose beetwenn to save Orpheus or Emperor i chose Orpheus because it seems the astral prisme works thanks to Orpheus, im trying to do what i see the right thing (my tav is mainlly neutral good aligned i think), and even if i want to kill the illidith i know that can be not the right thing to do

i think when an illidith is fully tranformed they lose the host's soul to be absorbed by the elder brain to produce another toadpole, then i think illidiths are damned and those who acts as an individuals like Emperor and Omeluum is only thanks to the Astral Prism

The Emperor for sure, he outright tells you this is the case. Not sure about the one in the Underdark, though. The infected can remain free while in close proximity to the Astral Prism, but the Mind Flayer in the Underdark would only have come into contact with it when you talk to him.

Not sure how that one broke free of the hive mind, but I guess anything's possible really. Maybe his old colony was destroyed or something?
