avoiding any mega spoilers since i don't have the game and contemplating getting the game
can you be the villain in this or is the most you can go like anti hero type?

You can 100% be the villain of this game. You can also choose to be the hero. You can even choose to go full murder hobo and kill everybody (good and bad) and the game will still react to it. They have done an incredible job sticking with their goal of a "player choices with consequences" design. There are entire portions of the game, plot, and encounters that you will not experience if you do the "good" play through; likewise if you do an "evil" play through. I recommend doing both.

The anti hero you can . I guess you can become villain in the end too depending on what you consider to be villain

Yeah, you can 100% be a villain (game even lets evil win in the end if you walk that path), or an anti-hero.

True ive played different games where ive deliberately done bad and immoral things in them like in Crusader kings and Stellaris where i know ive been the bad guy
and other like in civ where wasnt until near the end of the game where i realised i was actually the bad guy of this world

You can slaughter 1000 innocent npcs, and the game will still cosnider you the Hero of the Realms if you do ONE thing right.

Just like real life.

Like in WW2 Stalin slaughtered tens of thousands of his own people in order to clear opposition but then when he managed to pull the victory in the end , everyone cheered him like a hero.

So it’s very realistic

There are multiple endings and play choices in game which can denote you to be evil or to be not evil.

There is even a character creation choice that is called the Dark Urge which you can either play as evil(sticking to choices/dialog prompts of your dark evil urges) or resisting them and redeeming yourself (ie becoming good eventually).

So yes, you have choices. All depends on how you choose to play.

Can you be good but do evil things? Yes. Some with consequences others with not but over arching story ones have consequences.

Not necessarily good/evil but also paladins have oath requirements and actions that you do that break those oaths(be it to a good god's paladin or a bad god's paladin) will have consquences and an option to redeem their oaths(or not).

I know you can be evil for the sake of being evil but I dont know about being a villain. Think the outcome at the end are all essentially the same but I have not reached the end only heard about them

Sure you can, I did for example.

I play self serving manipulative villain. I accept anything that helps me gain power no matter good or bad .

In act 1 I saved the thieflings as saving them means more rewards and future Allies

In act 2 I chose to not kill Isobel as the reward wasn’t good enough to lose all the Allies

Act 3 I killed the elephant as it helped me get back on good terms with my fam, but then defied my father in the end to trick the rest of my team I am with them all the way

Then right at the end I manipulated the emperor to help me dominate the brain but then I guted him he least expected and took everything for myself .

Doesn’t get more evil than that, got rid of my father’s influence, manipulated Jargal into rezzing me so I am no one’s slave, used all the Allies to help me with resources and buff for the last battle then dominated everyone

You're asking for people to explain endings then in this thread by those statements reflecting how you don't know said endings even with your having not finished your play through as admitted to.

Not sure why you're wanting to make a distinction between being evil and a villain other wise as well but suffice to say, yes you can be a villain by your choices during and at the end of a play through of the game. Your choice.
