Hopefully they'll actually implement the loading property.

I hope so too since RAW you can't dual-wield crossbows.

You can, you just have to drop one (or stow it) to reload.

Yes you can. This was answered on Twitter. Both need to be loaded, so you would have to use your extra attack to fire the other. Simply drop the other crossbow after it has been fired. Also, FUN is always more important than RAW, nerd.

You still can't use extra attack on it without the feat which still makes it useless to dual-wield since you get the same result with only using one hand crossbow. Also if you stow a weapon while dual wielding it falls under use an object action. Dropping is a free action but then you have to waste an action to pick it up since it also uses the use an object action to do that.

You get better results with only using 1 hand-crossbow nerd. Also who answered this because everywhere I look says you can't.

Off-hand attack, then drop and proceed to use just 1 until the battle is over. Basically you can get an extra shot on your first turn per combat (unless you want to spend time picking it up and reloading it again).

By RAW you wouldn't be able to use Bows and Crossbows at all, because you need ammunition in order to do so.

And after playing BG1 and BG2, I can't say I'm keen on the complete and utter disaster that ammunition ends up being in a videogame.

Like the ammunition property, the stipulations about loading are just annoying to deal with in a videogame, and it's certainly much more enjoyable to be able to use Crossbows without having to deal with the stupid mechanics that guarantee that no Martial class ever uses them without Crossbow Expert passed level 5.

Eh, it's a cool fantasy to dual-wield in general regardless of how impractical it is IRL. Not like allowing you to use one with your offhand is all that effective past the early levels without the appropriate feats and/or fighting styles.

And by RAW, almost no one could legitimately be a thrown weapon specialist with all the restrictions until very recently with the additional of Thrown Weapon Fighting in Tasha's, either.

You could abstract the mechanics by allowing both XBows to fire every third round. A compromise.

I would just get the feat so I would not have to deal with any of that and be able to get two shots all the time.

Not true. All you do is let go of the string, get an arrow and put it on the string and bam ammunition works. The problem with xbows is the time it take to load a bolt which is why you can't really effectively dualwield crossbows.
