about download patch 8
I encountered a problem that for some reason it shows that the update will take up 110 GB, although it should be about 3 GB, as a friend told me, what should I do and are there any ways to fix it? Honestly, the Internet is very bad at the moment and I don’t want to download the entire game again.

It downloads the 3 and merges that into the 110GB already in your files

but at the same time it doesn't download only 3GB, because I have a very long download just for 100+GB in time, and why in any case does it write to some players that they should download 100GB, and to others directly 3GB
Moreover, in this case it should seem like it should write that it is not installing files for me, but checking their integrity

The download size is relatively small but Steam needs to rewrite almost the entire game installation in order to apply the patch after downloading (since the majority of the game data files need to be modified here and there). The update size reflects the total size of all the affected files, and patching can take a long, LONG time in this case. There are different progress bars and speed graphs for the actual download and for file operations.

Apparently yes, I think it's better for Larians to always do it this way

I just don't fully understand why someone only needs to install about 5-10 GB, while someone else needs to download 100+ GB

I think you are misunderstanding what is being updated. The 3GB update rewrites a huge portion of the existing files to apply the patch, that means its dealing with 100GB+ because its reporcessing and verifying tons of data, not necessarily downloading it all.

If you think something went wrong its usually the steam cache getting "confused"

How long since last update, some people misread the update ( reading the 100GB as download required as opposed to Files affected) , etc
The funny thing about Steam's game updater is that it can decide to copy the entire game from a fast SSD into a temp folder on a much slower HDD to use it as a staging area for patching, even though there should be enough free space on a SSD (350 GB free before starting the update in my case, and it's still copying everything to the HDD).

It downloads the entire game then merges/replaces it with your current version. So while it's downloading it will take up like 300 GB of space if you already have it installed. Absolutely ridiculous. I just uninstalled it and will reinstall when I feel like playing again. But hey, at least the gave a thought to evil playthroughs several months/years later right guys?
