This is the First D&D video game that actually feels like a faithful adaption of the tabletop game.

depends on who your dm was. if your dm was into relationship style d&d focused on sims like dating, then yes. I can see how this fits that.

Far from the first.
which ones do you think were closer to he tabletop game then?

-Early stuff. Like Pool of radiance+curse of the azure bonds (floppy disks). This game almost pulls it off.
But then focuses too much on "sex-oriented dungeon-mastering"(this is a thing...really... it is) so it loses alot of its edge that those games I mentioned had.

-No random encounters. This here is the poorest idea. Once an area is clear. Its clear forever. Not even a point in replaying the game. If its the same every damn time minus "i killed or didnt kill someone" is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ storytelling. Random stuff spruces up encounters. And playthroughs. This was a terrible ♥♥♥♥ idea. I hope it gets changed.
Darksun: Shattered Lands and Darksun II: Wake of The Ravager were very faithful adaptations of the 2nd edition Darksun rules. 3.5 patched Temple of Elemental Evil has to be the most faithful I've played so far. I'm reserving my opinion on BG3 as it's still early access and some of the unfaithful concepts will hopefully get removed or worked out. But this 4 level 1 act demo shows some promise.

agreed on the random encounters, the world just feels so dead without them.
irst D&D license video game that I played?

"Dungeon of the Dragon Knight" actually felt more like "Legend of Grimrock".

Baldur's Gate 1 + 2 was somehow too long ago these games had
also a D&D set of rules from version 3th.
At that time I had played more Playstation 1 and had not done BG1 + 2 DLC.

There were a lot of licensed cucumbers that were just bad or hadn't been fun for long.

Otherwise I had more to do with Warhammer video games.

The Baldurs Gate series is actually the first thing I played as a D&D game.
I thought TOEE was really enjoyable. I didnt like the first 2 baldurs gates because of the pausing combat... That ruined them for me anyway.
People have different tabletop experiences so they think different games are closer to the tabletop experience. The gold box games might be closer if you think of old editions more and do a lot of dungeon crawling. Solasta is closer if you do a lot of combat and not much else.

It all depends.
Not sure why this was necro'd, but I stand behind everything I said in this thread almost 2 years ago.
I'm a big fan 9f the Pool of Radiance, Eye of the Beholder, and Bard's Tale games.

I'm an even bigger fan of the Ultima series, starting with IV and ending with VII.

BG3 reminds me of Ultima more than anything else.
ROLF BG1 comes to mind as a good adaptation decades before BG3. Just saying....

And yes there are many others that have come before an sense that are proper adaptations of a Dice system. Heck may I point at the Shadowrun games.

Bg1? A good adaption? Rofl.

It's a good game, terrible adaption. There's a difference you know.
there have been great adaptation of previous editions in the past, not all of them have been great mechanical adaptations. Solasta did a great job as mechanical adaptation of 5e, it just had a forgettable story and mediocre graphics, i really hope they would find a decent publisher for part 2, stay true to mechanics, and invest a lot more into the story/setting/graphics. As for BG3, mechanically it is an acceptable adaptation of 5e, but overall a great one, as a game.
