About your "dream companion" (SPOILERS!)

Ok, have you made your dream companion really like then man/woman of your dreams? Or purposefully not? Dang I kinda have, and it is HARD to resist, lol, I hads said basically yes to everything. Even at that 2nd (or 3rd) dark revelation.

Any theories to what it leads? I really don't wish to become and Ilithid.

You have to use the tadpole power([ILLITHID] WISDOM) in dialogue then rest for the day.

well that would be why then. lol. never used the illthiad wisdom power before. i always either just talked my out of it or fought and killed whenever i didn't pass it.

The more you use the tadpole in dialogue choices (which can be REALLY helpful) the more you get the dreams. My guess, if I were designing the game, is that at some point when in dialogue and there are choices, the tadpole will choose for you, And you'll be like, WTF? It'll be only occasional at first, it might force you into a battle or out of one. And if you keep choosing to use it, more and more it'll force dialogue choices for you. To the point where you no longer have any choices at all and it has completely taken over. Game over.
But, it won't be a result of bad die rolls. It'll be a result of player's choice to use the tadpole repeatedly.

That's a very good theory.

How does that play out with Shadow? Is she secretly in on the whole deal? Shar's eyes and ears in your party? Eventually betray you or manipulate you? Would romancing her have some effect on that story path? Or is she just swept up in the whole thing; rain falls on all people? Her secret mission in BG - what do you think it is, how does it play into that story line?

From what I have seen so far Shar is not involved with the Absolute from what I can tell only Bane Bhaal and Myrkul are controlling the Absolute maybe she is trying to stop the Absolute because she wants Faerûn for herself but here is one thing I have notes in the first dream the NPC calls your MC chosen which only a deity would call you that Shar last chosen was Telamont Tanthul who was killed off by Elminster Aumar I think Shar saw a good opportunity to make you into her new chosen to do what Telamont Tanthul could not do which is to give Faerûn to Shar but on the romance side Shar has had a romance with a chosen of Shar before which she ended up with a child who's name was Lessinor he was also another chosen of Shar but later made a deal with Shar to become a deity of thieves Lessinor take on a new name Mask in 1374 DR Mask had to repay his debt to Shar handing back his divinity which ended up with Mask being killed off it was only in 1484 DR that Mask was able to make a comeback to stop Shar from taking over Faerûn do to the fact that Mask was able to hide some of his divinity in some of his worshipers Drasek Riven is the new Mask now

I really hope that bad choices have bad consequences. i.e. you keep inviting the tadpole in and boom, you change or it completely takes over... and game over. That would suck to end your game early, but it would give you the dire consequence that if you flirt with the tadpole and covet its power, you have to walk a tight rope or you die.

Personally what I think would be more interesting is that instead of just instantly giving you a gameover, the more you give into the tadpole the more it starts to force its will upon you in dialogue options. So doing things that goes against its interest will start to require harder and harder wisdom checks to prevent it from deciding for you. That way you can still playthrough the game to the end while still feeling the consequences of your actions.

Agreed I would hate it if using the tadpole ends up killing your MC off which I think will not happen anyway because of theShadow magic that is stopping the tadpole from talking over your MC

I would find it an interesting idea that the tadpole originally was to dominate you, but you end up bringing it to your side, if you play your cards well.

I didn't get the “dream companion” scene. At the end of EA content, I went to rest several times to test any content of the campsite and I still had no dreams.

It suck pretty much to read about a lot of content, I didn’t get, because some bugs.

The tadpole power seems a lot like "The Slayer" form in BG2.
If you use it too many times you will probably become as deluded as the other Absolute followers and eventually game over.
Other thing I'm thinking is that Shadowheart is a Drow in disguise.
Having a half high-elf worshiping Shar seems very odd.
The Urchin background suggests she was outcast so I'm thinking Half-Drow.
Likewise I'm pretty sure she is up to no good (and is the easiest character to get into bed.)

p.s. ooohh....spooky thought.
The default character model for your dream lover is a Drow.

That's my hope as well. It would kinda suck if they just made it so that the more you use it / give in to it the worse it gets you towards a bad end of becoming a mind flayer or something. It'd be more interesting if you could rather form more of a symbiotic relationship and grow stronger together. Especially since the players seem to be kinda different compared to most of the other infected.

I have this character that's like an inert long forgotten ancient god / goddess entity so this would kinda make for a great roleplay if the tadpole awakens this in them and the dream lover being basically that characters "true form", but that wouldn't really work if you'd become some cthulhu squid monster.

I think it triggers based on number of long rests taken, and number of illithid actions taken.

No, she has the image of an elf (maybe high elf) with whom my drow character fell in love. Then his family found out and forced him to kill her with his own magic. He managed to escape the Underdark and became a renegade, criminal of sorts.

He knows she is not real and resists but their dream meeting is a bit "what could have been". With a lot of guilt and sadness.

You don't actually bed her, you drink a wine and maybe kiss. She is not that easy. That being said, it will be really funny if she is a half-drow in disguise (though I don't think that is very likely). Probably the most likely romance option for my character, though I still have some hesitations. As always, it will be a decision on a whim.
