I am a human. And it's not that they attack me, they let me talk to them and I can either convince them to leave and I will take care of the cage or to open the cage and kill Lae'zel. I choose for them to leave, then there are more things I can ask about (like explosion they are investigating and their town) but no matter what they just won't actually leave after the discussion. If I free Lae'zel after that, they attack.
Maybe it's my pet wolf. People in town talk about it and think it's a druid in disguise. I'll try without the animal and see what happens.
Pets are more trouble than they're worth.
