The standard american bourbon barrel holds 53 gallons. Most fluids weight around 6-8 pounds. So if you have a single barrel, you on average have like 300+ pounds, making it mostly impossible to store or carry around normally.
DND Rules:
Push, Drag, or Lift. You can push, drag, or lift a weight in pounds up to twice your carrying Capacity (or 30 times your Strength score). While pushing or dragging weight in excess of your carrying Capacity, your speed drops to 5 feet.
Barrelmancy dies.
It's actually not super far from RPG though, I mean preparations and laying traps to put the enemy into a disadvantageous position is actually something I would consider to do in case I knew I am about to face an enemy that is stronger and likely to beat me in a fair fight.
What I would do is what some other's have already suggested to make it realistic in case of barrel, like only allow to carry one, make it a non lootable item, so the barrel will be carried by the character on screen but won't show up in the inventory and the character won't be able to perform any actions other than walking slowly.

Seriously, who the even unironically uses reddit anymore? Sad times, man.
If you want to talk realism, oil barrels do NOT explode, gasoline vapors and gunpowder would explode to that extend but not oil, so all teh sudden were in this D&D universe with refineries why not include guns and Cannons while you're at it? no need for that bulky plate armor or that whimsy leather armor, just wear kevlar that would defiantly benefit the spellcasters as well with so little restriction, but why not just remove magic and incorporate some nanobots or full out Robot AI with psychic powers, or are we still in the forgotten realms/swordcoast ? if you want to include stupid stuff like that make a game in another setting.
That's a good point, oil in reality burns but does not explode like it's byproducts, at least not under atmospheric pressure in an open environment. But hey, this is fantasy logic.
There used to be prestige classes for making dagger masters in previous editions. Right now, dual wielding daggers is pointless for this videogame. If you were in a DnD CAMPAIGN with full on GM'ing, hiding daggers is much easier than hiding any other weapon, making them essential for assasins, sneaking around as a thug, or having a backup weapon in a area where weapons are forbidden.
I've lost count how many times I and a few others have said this, but I will repeat one more time: the game is NOT balanced around "barrelmancy" nor is DOS2.
I have to wonder how many of those people who seem to think DoS influence was the worst thing that could ever happen to BG franchise actually played DOS2.
But no, even DOS2 is not all about blowing up barrels and if it was, it wouldn't have been so highly regarded by many RPG fans.
However, the game is not balanced around barrels. I didn't use them and it was fine.
