**CAUTION - SPOILERS** Did I bypass the entire hag fight or did I find a BUG?

So I think I made a few interesting sets of choice but I was left with an odd situation towards the end... I decided to make the deal with Auntie Ethel to take out my eye and kiss it but then once she changed from her human skin to her hag form, I had second thoughts and decided to fight her instead. This prompted her to go invisible and transport Maryina to her lair as well as summoning all red caps in the bog to come running towards the house to fight me and my party.

I was able to make short work of them and then puzzle my way down to the lair without too much difficulty. The odd thing was that Auntie Ethel was nowhere to be seen! I was expecting some kind of boss fight before I rescued Maryina but it didn't happen and I didn't get any dialogue when I tried to talk to Maryina either so I just walked into the Acrid Workshop and stole everything. No fight with the hag and afterwards I left through the back exit and there was a big red box that was called an arcane barrier. When I touched it, I took damage and Ethel's voice would say, "Don't do that petal." This feels like a bug but with the voice dialogue from Ethel, I might be wrong because this game is full of different options.

Has anyone else run into this before? Bypassing the boss fight entirely?

She is invisisible. The encounter doesn't trigger. I worked around it by throwing firebolt on the floor where i thought she may be and plastered the floor with fire until she was found. Once found combat started but she never fought back. I had an easy time sniping her until she died. Unfortuneatly you can't get any other option other than to kill her and then talk to Maryina. Definitely a bug.

I was not that patient and so I just left. When you killed her, did the bog stay the same? Or did the lair effects go away and it looked better? Did you encounter the arcane shield or were you able to reunite Maryina with her dead husband - literally? Were you able to recover the wand that allows you to create undead followers?

Bog stays the same. I did however get to reunite her with zombie husband. If you pick up the wand in the next room and go outside. Maryina is by the grave and the shield is down.

Since I didn't kill Ethel, there was no wand in the next room - I used the ALT key to double check and Maryina doesn't allow for dialogue when you let her out the cage and she doesn't move outside... so even if there was a possibility of a reunion she doesn't go and the barrier is there so not happening anyways.

Yeah Maryina does not talk back unless you kill Ethel. I was trying all sorts of things. I did find the wand before killing ethel though but it had 0 charges and when i went outside the barrier was still up. The originally thought Ethel just didn't spawn but as i walked around i had one perception check that failed. That's when i tried plastering the ground with Firebolt in that area.

Once Ethel is dead, Maryina talks.

I did get a cutscene down in her lair. She told me about all the ways she was going to slowly kill me and revive me so she could do it all again. But then she just stood there and let me kill her without even triggering combat/turn based mode...
Kind of a downer, but thats early acces for ya.

You don't need to kill Ethel to retrieve the wand. The wand is there regardless.

I was going into it fully expecting to kill the hag (or rather, try to): the fight starts, her four little goons pop out, she goes invisible and disappears into her lair.

After killing the goons I followed in after her and navigated the gas chamber just fine. Made it to where Mayrina is being held in the cage- no cut scene, no nothing. I clicked the orb, she came down and had a VO line, then the NPC couldn't be interacted with. The dialogue bubble is there to chat when you mouse over her, but no cutaways or lines come out.

Obviously all's fair in EA, but I was really looking forward to probably not winning this fight :(

if you manage to kill her before she escapes you get to see her exact placement in the basement after - since her corpse will teleport down there.. lol.

but in your case yeah she should be invisible somewhere around the cage, it's a bug many talked about.

This worked haha!! Amazing. For future reference, I threw a firebolt at the small wooden bridge by the yellow orb, sort of below the random little rising cliff by the waterfall. She scurried out, but she didn't retaliate.

I've been soldiering through the game so far with few bugs so that hasn't been an issue.The fact I can't make the character I want yet isn't that big a deal either.But this encounter, both the shack and the underground are just so jank that I think I'll shelve this for now.

Is there a way to knock down the arcane barrier? I tried bring an anti-magic flower from the arcane towers from the tree (sulva?) and put it near the barrier, but it loses its anti-magic value before I get there. Not even sure it would help anyway.

Not sure if it would work on the barrier, but if you put an anti-magic flower in a pouch and then put that pouch into your backpack the flower does not lose it's power when you go back above ground. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2850890799
Tried several long rests and the flower kept the anti-magic field effect.

okay, I was being too creative on this one. Killing the hag opened a lot of things up. I have the wand, but I cannot wake the husband if the wife is dead?
