Ropes: the most useles usefull item in game?
My roleplayer instinct when I see a rope is "grab it!! you can always use a rope!"... and ropes are found everywhere in the game.... but..... they seem to be useless!! I have found dozens of situations where simply using a rope would have solved my problems... sooo many cliffs you could just use a rope to climb down from... or use a hook and rope to climb up!! but noooo..... I have 30+ ropes in my inventory and not a single way to use them!!

Am I missing some mechanic here?? do I have to craft something to make them usable??

or are ropes simply and utterly useless in this stage of the game?

TFW I can't craft a lasso, rope down an enemy and tie him to the Horse Wild Shaped Druid to live out Red Dead in Baulder's Gate 3.

Hey man. Give the devs some slack.

I'll see myself out.

needs a use and its Larians DnD i would say you should be ables to use a rope to tie Barrels together to Make a CLUSTER-BARREL. That would be awesome

I feel like some of the junk items in this game are just memberberries from Divinity.

Or is a usuable item for crafting, which still hasn't hit EA, you know.

the crafting in the divinity games was quite bad.

I am assuming when you have rope, your character has better dex saves when climbing up and down cliffs, rope-climbs, vines...

The Wizard Gale slipped off while climbing down a cliff and took damage. He didn't seem to have that problem again once he had rope equipped and I have not seen him fall since.

It's definitely possible, but they'd have to specifically program areas that are "rope-able" to avoid players going nuts and breaking the game with a single rope. The Jump action and Misty Step are already hella exploitable on their own, i can only imagine what being able to put a rope down would accomplish.

There needs to be a limitation in place on ropes before they can be properly used. And a lot of times features like that remain in the wings or on the drawing board not because the developers have no idea how to do it, but because they need to add a drawback to them that won't be completely worthless, or won't make them completely useless.
Making them one-time use, for example, not only violates logic but would turn them into rare commodities people would save "just in case i need it" to the point you end the game without ever using it.
Which is terribad for testing.

I think one-time use ropes of finite quantity in-game, combined with many many "rope-able" points where the rope stays there would be brilliant, more spots than ropes but plenty of desirable places to get to. Like in real life, if you tie a rope to get up or down somewhere, that rope stays there.

Or if you knocked out instead of killing enemies, tie them up and interogate them.

I feel like they will just serve as useless clutter to sell or be used in a crafting recipe or something... But I'd 100% love to see them have an in-game function to assist with climbing, but I feel like the world design may not be well suited to it, especially since a lot of areas with varying height already has stuff like stairs and what not.

Seing a rope for the first time triggered my pathfinder kingmaker reflex. Never leave city without at least 2 ropes.

My char is still hoping he can use the ropes in camp on his companions, but I doubt Larian has included that option.

I wouldn't hold my breath for being able to use them at-will. Maybe a scripted segment or two.

i also cant find a use for ropes. but crafting isnt fleshed out at all right now maybe there will be a use for it in crafting later on or something.

*on a side note. i found only 1 spot where the shovel is useful, if kanon dies at the grove gates he will later on be burried near his spot. theres a voiceover suggesting to use the shovel on it indirectly "if only i had a tool for that".
The large crypt area - the door on the beach at the beginning of it has an exit that leads up a back way to another entrance to the same area. I have found a chest there very often. It does require a skill check to find it.
