Armor proficiencies!
So i take it Gale shouldn't be able to use medium armor without proficiency?
cos right now i have him in medium armor and i can't seem to find and downside to it...just Ea thing i take it ?

edit: Never mind it works you can't cast spells and you do get disadvantage on attacks.... i was just blind and didn't see it :)

By the PnP rules, you can wear armour you're not proficient with, but it gives you disadvantage on Str- and Dex-based attack rolls, ability checks and saves, and you can't cast spells. Dunno how it's working on BG3.

He shouldn't be able to cast spells in armor without proficiency. And have disadvantage on basically everything.

ow ok so maybe it actually works cos i didn't try it out in combat was thinking it's just a bug...

edit: OW thx yeah it works you can't cast spells and you do get disadvantage nvm.. SO i guess it's possible just for RP reasons?

If you wear armor that you lack proficiency with, you have disadvantage on any ability check, saving throw, or Attack roll that involves Strength or Dexterity, and you can’t cast Spells.

So yes that's EA giant hole.

Yeah medium armor spell casters are druids, hunters and I think clerics. heavy armor casters are paladins.
Brother Hayatus Oct 18, 2020 @ 2:47am
also two cleric subclasses can wear heavy armor - life and forge

Basicely everyone CAN wear armor, without proficiency though, you gimp yourself bad, but if you want a Heavy armor spellcaster, as stupid as it sounds RP wise, take the feat at level 4 for it, and you have your heavy Plate armor wearing wizard, or, if Multyclassing becomes a thing, just pick 1 Level Fighter as Wizard and you get proficiency with all armors and weapons, oh and a mini Heal as in second Wind 1d10+1.

if you really want to you can just have him get Heavy Armor feat at lv 4. My Dwarf wizard is wearing Lae'zel's armor with proficiency because he is a shield dwarf and he can cast spells and all. I'm more curious about druids not being able to equip anything metal. Its a ruling in 5e.

Erm you get medium profiency armor as a Githianki :P just saying...xD

Would probably be your best bet.

Just make sure not to dump the strength stat since you need it to carry your own weigth

You wont get proficiency in Heavy Armor just by multiclassing into Fighter. That would only give you as far as Medium Armor. You would have to take the feat "Heavily Armored", which require that you already have Medium Armor proficiency, or gain the proficiency through other means(life, nature, tempest or war domain Clerics from the PHB).

As does Mountain Dwarf.

You forget, we are talking about BG3 here, a game, a wizard is able to learn Cleric spells and everyone has disengage as a bonus action, also, the DM decides on such matters, a DM can bend the rules and guess what, the DM in BG3 is Larian.

Yep but if you going for a wizard may as well go githanki makes more sense with their +1 to intelligence.

War, tempest, life and forge cleric have havy armor too, war and tempest even have martial wapons if they build them in the correct way into the game (which is not done now, EA)
