i like this game and it's character creator, but chill with elves will you?
githyanki(not even gonna try to spell that right, i'm sorry), drow, elf, and half elf are all seperate races, and i'm not a lore expert but from just looking at them githyank and drow could've just been elf sub races.

The elves branched away from the eladrin in a long forgotten age, and no one was exactly sure which race came first

We'll have to agree to disagree about Githyanki looking like elves. Pretty much the only thing they have in common is pointed ears, by that logic Gnomes are elves.

Admittedly I'm disappointed that they prioritized Drow as a separate species (for some reason) before including staples like Gnomes or Half-Orcs. But I'm sure they'll get added later.

Drows are degrade version of elves TBH. There are old book about elves called Cormanthyr.
Pretty much explanations there for example Gold elves have most high lifespan up 800 years while drow rarely reach over 400. Eladrins... they are more elflike then true elves.

And drow is not a subrace anymore to that. (afaik) Dark elf, the non drow (aka ancestors of the drow!) would be a subrace of the High elves, just like moon elf, sun elf, star elf and Llewyr. But not drow.
Wood elves are definetly not a subrace of the high elves though! (it is why we have the distinction!)

The racial selection isn't called "high elves" though. It's just called "elves" so having High and Wood listed as sub-races makes sense.

What doesn't make sense, however, is registering Drow as a different racial category, yet including them as a sub race of Half Elves, alongside High and Wood.

Why aren't Goblins included, they're elves too and Orcs.

There used to be way, way more Elven sub-races but WOTC realized it was getting ridiculous.

Gith aren't even form the same plane of existence, and Drow have been living in the Underdark for so long that they can't really be lumped in with surface Elves anymore, not like Wood-Elves who are just Elves who turned away from civilization to get away from the war between High Elves and Drow.

u are refering in mutch newer time in story line than elfs history is, if u would actually know anything of forgotten realms history u would know this

This is completely wrong. Drow lifespan is roughly 700-1000. The only reason many don't live over 400 is their chaotic environment. ie. They murder each other, if they're dying at 400 it's from being killed, not old age.
