calm down with the elves.
i like this game and it's character creator, but chill with elves will you?
githyanki(not even gonna try to spell that right, i'm sorry), drow, elf, and half elf are all seperate races, and i'm not a lore expert but from just looking at them githyank and drow could've just been elf sub races.

Gith aren't elves. They're psychic aliens.
What about Wood Elves, Sea Elves, Shadar-kai and Eladrin??

i am not even going to question that.

What about the "humans"? They're obviously just elves with flat ears.

If i recall well we currently have high elf.
And drow is not a subrace anymore to that. (afaik) Dark elf, the non drow (aka ancestors of the drow!) would be a subrace of the High elves, just like moon elf, sun elf, star elf and Llewyr. But not drow.
Wood elves are definetly not a subrace of the high elves though! (it is why we have the distinction!)

Elder scroll games same thing they had dark elf, high elf,and wood elf a total of three elf races with one human, lizard and orc race.
I think it's because the concept of elf's. Is usually them being the elders of the planet being the original first race of existence. In most lore Seems like some were actually part of there planet instead of just being born from it. In our world they would be more in the position humans With our diverse layers of races and cultures.

I'm kind of surprised we don't have Moon Elves, since they're supposed to be the most common elves on Faerun. I suppose Sun, Wood and Drow are good enough.

Githyanki aren't Elves though, they're supposed to be near-humans (or possibly Humans) who were captured by the Illithid and altered to improve their psionic abilities. Much like how the Illithid mutated Dwarves into the Duergar. The Githyanki do have long lifespans because they live on the astral plane (people age differently on different planes of existence), but they age normally on the prime material plane.

Original lore was selectively bred human slaves just for Mind Flayer implantation

There are never enough elves sub races. We should also add sea elves, shadar-kai (shadow elves) and Eladrins who come into 4 different seasons. Avariels (flying elves) are also a thing but I don't think they have officiel stats in 5e.

Just embrace the ridiculousness.

i don't mind sub races, but there being 3 and a half (yes i know githyanki are technically not elves but they look like elves and i'm racist so they count) races that just are elves i find it kinda boring

Drow are an elf subrace in 5E. No idea why they have a separate listing in race selection.
Dx2 Oct 16, 2020 @ 12:49am
every elf is subrace, there is no one and true elf master race, all elf are humanoids

Tell that to the sun elves. Or the drow.

And the Drow actually ARE a sub race of elves in PnP. No idea why Larian decided to make them their own separate line in BG3. Maybe it was easier to code NPC's reacting to them differently, if they weren't lobbed in with High and Wood elves?
I kind of feel there stance on taking the freedom to remove them from a subclass and into their own is a bit of an over-reach. But, meh I am just happy they are in the game to being with....Also all goblins must die.
