i am not even going to question that.
And drow is not a subrace anymore to that. (afaik) Dark elf, the non drow (aka ancestors of the drow!) would be a subrace of the High elves, just like moon elf, sun elf, star elf and Llewyr. But not drow.
Wood elves are definetly not a subrace of the high elves though! (it is why we have the distinction!)
I think it's because the concept of elf's. Is usually them being the elders of the planet being the original first race of existence. In most lore Seems like some were actually part of there planet instead of just being born from it. In our world they would be more in the position humans With our diverse layers of races and cultures.
Githyanki aren't Elves though, they're supposed to be near-humans (or possibly Humans) who were captured by the Illithid and altered to improve their psionic abilities. Much like how the Illithid mutated Dwarves into the Duergar. The Githyanki do have long lifespans because they live on the astral plane (people age differently on different planes of existence), but they age normally on the prime material plane.
Just embrace the ridiculousness.
