Kind of over the "effeminate" male character
Who uses darling and sexual innuendo when they talk. Its like this is the only gay personality that game developers can do it seems. The same type of character was in Assassins Creed Odyssey that I just played. Meh.

I like him. Reminds me of my favourite straight (edit: just noting that it’s more of a noble than a gay personality) georgian heroes. They used dear, beloved and a lot more.

He’s kind of the game highlight for me :)

Alkibiades.

Yeah, he was annoying. I couldn't get rid of him.

Every time I turned around he wanted me to do another quest or have sex.

As someone with multiple friends who are gay/Bi etc... (probably shocking some as I am a financial conservative) I have to agree.

In the 16 years I have known them I have never once heard them or any of their other friends who are in a similar boat talk like that.

Its a very very stereotypical upper north eastern way to assume they behave.

I love him. He's more of a noble archetype than a gay one. He's my favorite companion at the moment. I love his facial expressions, his look, his ambiguous behaviour, and the mystery that surrounds him.

Yup, and they always make them so forward and endlessly pushy about it as well. They dont do that for the female characters, I never had a female character repeatedly push to get into my pants in any game. It usually was one time and then they didnt bring it up again. Its so tedious.

+1

Think so too. He’s got that classy old style nobleman thing going. And he’s hilarious.

Are you talking about Zevran?

I'm gay and I love how over the top he is. First of all I don't see why it should be an issue to have flamboyant characters they exist in real life just as in fiction, not only that but its actually quite on point for the medieval nobility type of characters and Astarion is in the higher circles of Baldurs Gate politics so it fits the character.

If he was the same character but a female you wouldn't be complaining about it so I'd suggest to ask yourself the right questions.

And for the people who will try to say he's a caricature he's not. There's 0 mention of his sexuality and I genuinely don't think he's even meant to be particularly queer.

He's a lot less over the top than Sylvando from Dragon Quest XI for instance and a lot more on point.

He's mostly cynical, sarcastic and dry.

Lastly effeminate is really not the right word to describe him, just putting it out there.

First off, saying darling as a man and in the way he says it, is certainly effeminate. Secondly maybe i am projecting a bit, since as I mentioned earlier he reminds me strongly of Alkibiades from assasins creed oddysey. Ive seen it in a couple of TV shows, and series and it is used quite frequently and to me is a caricature of male effeminately most often tied to homosexuality.

I dont have any issue with gay people, I am just really strongly against fake personalities and his seems so forced and over the top.

Yes, exactly my thoughts. I'm not a native english speaker so I don't have the right words. You expressed it well. He's not really effeminate, he's a flamboyant and posh noble. Like Volo for exemple.
Moreover, I don't care what his sexual orientation is, I think he's funny, interesting and fascinating. That's the most important.

I get that he seems fake to you but for a fan of the 18th century hes... not much. Toned down. Not too flashy. No high heels. No makeup. No... fan. Nobles had fans at some point :P

Also have been trying to romance him and apart from calling me ‘my dear’ and a small exchange where I hit on HIM that’s all I’ve got in 16 hours. Don’t really see him being annoying at all.
