BM superior die question
Isn't fighter dice normally do 1d20 for hit then 2d6 for GS for example?

How does superior dice(d8s) fits in the equation and why is it "superior" than normal dice?

Superiority dice are a function of the Battlemaster fighter archetype {choice at level 3} and are part of the Maneuver you use, regardless of the weapon you use it with. It's 1d8 whether you're using a 1d4 dagger, 1d12 greataxe, or anything in between, getting added onto weapon damage dice along with other bonuses.

that superiority die is BONUS damage being added onto your battlemaster maneuvers. So if you use menacing strike and it hits, you will deal bonus 1d8 damage to your attack. Its really good at low levels.
Later on, that 1d8 should eventually level up to 1d10 at level 10. At level 18 they turn into 1d12s but I doubt we'll get to level 18 in this game, most likely 13 will be the highest.

Think of superiority dice like spell slots or barbarian rages. You get a certain number of charges per short rest to use your special battle actions.

The dice start out as 1d8s, and later become 1d10s and 1d12s.

It is bonus damage, so it is superior or additional in that sense.

nb : it is great if you can get some Short Rests. Sadly only one per day at the moment, unless you "spam" Long Rests.
