Wood Elf Fighter for DEX / Long Range Fighting?

So today when I can, I plan on making a Wood Elf Fighter. I want to test this against a Ranger build. My thinking is I'll be good with a bow and when the mob gets close, I'll be just as good.
Any thoughts?

I'd go with half-wood elf if you really want to make that build. You still get the speed, but you get to put 16 in CON as well as DEX. You'll only get 4 shots with bonus damage though from combat maneuvers, so I think ranger would do better with hunter's mark or colossus slayer. Even better once they fix the bug that's stopping them from working together.

Half wood elf gets the speed, I thought they only got the stealth?

Best race in the game IMO. Only competition would be human variant when/if it gets added or modded in.

Keep in mind that sharpshooter and other ranged feats aren't in the game yet, so uh, adjust accordingly.
