I'm not very familiar with the kits. What non evil God/kit combo is best for a high damage dealing melee cleric. Thanks

No idea about clerics in general but my evil cleric was doing pretty good damage with a two handed sword.

This weapon to be exact. https://baldursgate3.wiki.fextralife.com/Sword+of+Justice You can get it reasonably early.

I'm not sure the deity makes much of a diff I'm sure its more in the domain.

Not sure what you mean by kit, but the best melee cleric is definitely going to be Light Domain. Just take any good-aligned god and you're set.

Be a Half-elf, go with 16 STR, 10 CON, 14 DEX, 8 INT, 16 WIS and 10 CHA. You get the 16 strength here if you want to use melee weapons, but if you are fine relying on spells, just dump strength and put the points into constitution instead. You could also get the Headband of Intellect in the Blighted Village to bump up the intellect to an 18 if you want no negative bonuses for whatever reason.

Take Inflict Wounds, Bless, Shield of Faith, and Healing Word. You have low hp since you don't have much constitution, but you get Aid at level 3 to make up for it.

After that you are using your spell slots to keep up Bless to improve your hit chance, or Shield of Faith to make you harder to hit in melee. Of course you are using Inflict Wounds and Burning Hands for damage as well. Your Channel Divinity ability is also really strong (2d10 + Level, Avg. 15 dmg), and you get a solid ranged option if you take Guiding Bolt at level 2 or 3.

Normally you wouldn't have the proficiencies to use most of the big damage weapons, but there is a really good mace in EA right now you can get from Flind that does as much damage as a Longsword+1, and if you don't care about exploiting you can get a 2d8 mace from Bugbears if you disarm them with a Battlemaster Fighter (Lae'zel). With the Flind mace your melee will be 1d6 + 5 (Avg. 8.5), or 1d6 + 6 (Avg. 9.5) if you use your ASI on strength. With the 2d8 mace you'll be dealing 2d8 + 3 (Avg. 12) which is the same damage as a 18 strength fighter with a Greatsword+1. Overall some solid weapon damage.

10 con sounds brutally low for a cleric..or literally any character. You should do at least 12. I am usually going with this build though.

True, but like I said, this is a sacrifice made in order to make melee weapons viable. The best possible stats are probably 8/14/16/8/16/12, and then using the Club of Hill Giant Strength and Headband of Intellect to get a stat total of 15 STR, 14 DEX, 16 CON, 18 INT, 18 WIS, and 12 CHA at level 4 which is pretty insane. It all depends on what "damage dealing melee cleric" means.

Drow Cleric of Eilistraee. Light Domain.
You are a 'Good' Drow, you serve a 'Good Drow Deity' and you also get all the love of a Light Cleric. The Dark Maiden approves of a light Cleric self and will appreciate the powers you will eventually get.

War domain gets heavy armor and martial weapons if I remember right (Not positive as I prefer 3.5 to 5e)
There is no high dps cleric melee build, because clerics arent meant to do that. Maybe once we get the rest of the cleric subclasses. For now, the "melee build" is the only build you can do, grab the heaviest armor you can wear/want to wear, which is 16, maybe 17. And then great a greatsword since theres no reason to use anything else. Put everything into strength and con, dump wisdom because you dont care about casting spells if you're going for a melee fighter, you would just use Bless or Shield, you arent support, you're the fighter remember. Subclass doesnt really matter, but Light is obviously the only one thats even close to this.

so congrats you just built a paladin. Max out Strength and just throw people off cliffs until you win the game, strength play through is easily the most fun. In fact, my main is a strength melee cleric, so I have actually done this countless times.

For a traditional melee cleric there really is only tempest and war. Forge might be brought in via mods. Tempest is probably going to be flat out better than war unless BG3 changes things up. We will have to see if Larian adds some of the better cantrips like booming blade in, so cherry picking some more offensive melee abilities is possible.

Or just dip a level into fighter once multi classing is in.

Light cleric + fighter is powerful as heck since fighter gets you martial weapons and heavy armor prof.

Storm cleric used to be amazing for melee dps in older editions cause you could unlock stormlord which gave amazing benefits.

A Light Cleric + Fighter would by no means be bad, but I don't see the point. You would be taking the best blaster cleric and slowing their spell progression for what heavy armor? Which is 1 more AC, or martial weapons which you won't use past level 5 since cantrips will out damage them.

Currently, Light cleric is the best combat oriented Domain (the other two choices being Life or Trickery).

But who knows how many Domains will make their way into the game later? Tempest is a very popular choice, as is War, so I suspect those two at least.

Personally, I'm hoping for Twilight.

You are correct :). Tempest Clerics get pretty good too OP, but might not be Melee enough for you in the end.

I want to make a Twilight Cleric/Bladesinger dual wielder.
