Unplayable on RX-590 because GPU and heat
Hi guys,

this is a game which causes me most of my problems, it looks like I can only play it with some future computer. My potato computer otherwise allows for a lot of gaming, but not this one.

Core i7 2600k, 32 GB RAM, AMD Radeon Sapphire RX590. So this should be something like a GTX1070 equivalent, not sure. Drivers ofc up to date. 2560x1440 is my native screen res, which I want to use.

Problem: All settings to lowest!, set frame cap to 45 - Still there is so much going on that GPU most of the time maxes out on 100%, the fans are mostly working hard, temperatures in the 70s and approach 80 deg celsius. I tried Vulkan, it is not possible, then it's amongst the super few games ever which kills my PC (e.g., GPU mostly with no signal, keyboard blocked - very strange).

Went out of ideas. I could play it with frame capped to ~10, but omg no.

Frame cap is typically the best option, so if you've verified that it works correctly, you'll need to consider sacrificing rendering quality, e.g. reducing the resolution.

That being said, if you're in the market for a new GPU, I really like AMD's newer graphics cards. They run cool & quiet - especially the ones with a lower power target (but you can manually reduce it, too, for other models). I have an RX 6700 (non-XT) from PowerColor and can recommend it.

Does the 590 have FSR 2? I had a 1070ti and hovered around 45ish fps with 2k resolution. I upgraded to an rx6750xt and got about 70fps. I turned on FSR2 with some bios tweaks and had to enable vsync because my frame rate was hitting 160fps.

Major problem is the resolution.

You should have it more enjoyable by turning it down and play the game in windowed mode.

Intel Core i7-2600K is from 2011, time to upgrade to modern platform.

Frankly, capping the framerate, fsr and lower the resolution.

But when i look at it, your GPU is old but shouldnt be the problem.
You CPU on the other is ancient and will lower your performance big times.

I played this game with a 580 @ 1440 in EA. It's not your GPU.

Your CPU is old. And yes, the CPU is also important for handling graphics. And any GPU should be able to handle 80c. They have built in protections for temperatures which could harm them.

try geforce now. bg3 is worth it.

How much VRAM do you have? This will affect playability greatly is stuff is overflowing into the main memory.
