Co-op broken? Friend can't join

for some reason, ever since the patch, my friend has been unable to join my game. Considering we left off at the very start of part 3, starting over isn't exactly appealing.
every time they try to join all they get is the message "Error joining failed: can't join this game right now".
we both have 0 mods installed and have both tried completely reinstalling the game

I have the exact same problem with my 2 friends, they cannot join our 70+ hours campain

Same! We played the first two acts as couch co-op and left off at the start of act 3 right before the patch. There's no point to keep playing unless we can find a fix

Same thing... My buddy and I started having problems about a week ago when a large BG3 patchj installed. Today we tried and got the same error message as you (its different than the error message we got last week). We also tried to launch the game from the Larian launcher and that didnt work either. extremely frustrating... Can't believe we played through 2 acts and now cannot finish the game

I forgot to mention that we tried to un-friend each other from steam and launch the game and link up using the Direct Connection tab. That didnt work either

Hi

My friend and I have recently been having a problem playing coop. Whenever he tries to invite me to his game and I try to join, I get an error message that I cannot join his game now.

This problem started happening almost two weeks ago when I installed a big patch. At that time, I was having a similar connectivity problem but with a different error message. After researching workaround, we eventually were able to play by unfriending each other on steam and doing "direct connection" in the game menu. However, last night we tried the same thing and got the error message. We are stuck having played through Act 2 (never having a problem) until now where we are at the start of Act 3. No matter what we tried, we got the same error message last night and we eventually stopped trying. We tried to direct connect, we tried launching with the Larian executable instead of launching through steam. Nothing worked. Please help as we invested a lot of time and we are basically stuck now with no ability to continue the game.

Just so you know, this problem has been pretty widely reported in the Steam BG3 forum so it is not just me. Nobody has a clue on what to do

Can someone please let me know if a fix is in the works and what the ETA will be? Also, any other workarounds would be greatly appreciated

Other information... our game is at the latest release... we both are on the same release

so everyone is in the same boat. Only answers so far are general fixes, no specific fix that addresses this.
so we're waiting until larian spots this and decides to fix it ;-;

Same issue. Game worked just fine yesterday.

Seems to be because of a Steam friend problem. The way to fix it is simple, launch BG3 without starting Steam and use direct connect.
