Would you go for a solo run in your first playthrough?
Hi everyone 😊
First of all I wanted to say this game looks great, full of potential and infinite possibilities.
The thing is I am not quite enjoying the gameplay as I wanted to. For me the most difficult part is to have so many options, spells and classes. Also another point that it’s making my experience so difficult are the companions: I mean, I know they are well written and everything but, they annoy me so much with their backstories, quests etc. I rather prefer killing them or not even talk to them. I will probably lose a lot of content if I skip their histories but in the other hand I think it will make my experience more enjoyable.
With all being said, any suggestion to play solo? Would you recommend going just with shadow heart? I read that she is the only important character that impacts the actual plot. Any classes to go solo that are fun to play? I dunno I will really appreciate any suggestions or ideas.
Much love ❤️

No. A lot of what makes the game stand out in the genre is the side characters and the voice acting. Removing that from the experience the first time through is to do yourself a tremendous disservice. If you can't stand them, then you probably would like the game very much.

For most people, the companions and their quests are going to be a major part of the draw. If you feel the opposite, then go ahead and kill them all and do it yourself. You can always hire mercenaries through Withers, too. Do whatever you want.
Couldn't have said it better than Phantom. I don't get it, but if you have fun playing anyway that's a thing to celebrate.

The reason why true solo (no mercenaries from Withers) is not recommended is that there are lots of crowd control effects in the game which would functionally be a one hit kill. It can be (and has been!) done, but it's something you need to plan a whole character for with the benefit of knowing the game already.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by the classes, just be a Fighter! They kick butt and you don't have to worry about a bazillion spells. :D

Personally, no. Solo runs are boring AF IMO.
No. I remember all too well being creeped out every second I was playing Diablo. They may be my imaginary friends, but they can lob spells and arrows at the doppelganger trying to tear my eyes out. Imagine being in the spider cave alone. No thanks. I guess Shadowheart would be some company, but still reminiscent of two horror movie chicks wandering into the haunted house wielding a flashlight.

If you're more into mechanics than story and character you might want to switch to Solasta.

Even then, you're required to build a four-character party in Solasta, which is also stated to be an issue because there's too many options to keep track of. D&D cRPGs outside of like...NWN1 really aren't all that conducive to single character play without advance knowledge of the game.

What makes a solo run hard is that mobs don't re-spawn. So farming levels and gear before going onto the next challenge is very limited. Also being above average in tactics would be helpful.
But!!! If you love challenges and want to solo, yeah, why not? Give it your best shot.
If you do try, please come back and tell us what you made Tav. Race and class. Have fun.

I did one blind on tactician as the game was released. Made many mistakes and had some issues, but i still managed to do it.

You will miss roughly 80% (if not more) of the content by doing so. At that point, I would say, maybe this isn't a game for you. That's how I am with Resident Evil games. I don't like playing them for whatever reason, but I enjoy watching people play them.

edit: I suppose you could do tons of separate playthroughs of each origin character. But even still, you're going to miss out on almost everything.

Solo runs are for after you beat the game a few times

Sounds like a sucky way to play, but it's doable.

It's doable but the way this game is designed will make this run quite boring. A lot of quest involve playing characters each with their own story. For example, it will make no sense to do more than what is needed in The Temple of Shar for Shadowheart questline. Neither going to the cloister in act 3 or hell or kill Raphael.

Whenever I see such question I get a headache.

Long story short: it is a role play game. So imagine you are the adventurer you play. Would you really go solo all by your own in such a real life situation?
FunkyMonkey Oct 6, 2024 @ 11:06pm
You lose suprisingly little content by not getting companioins in terms of XP or locations, I can't really think of any locations that would be gated behind companions, really. Some of them make more sense if you bring companions with you.

So, you can play solo. I wouldn't recommend it and if you want to play solo games, I might recommend playing something else.
