Bards can't use hand crossbows now?

Hi there. Have a bard that can't use hand crossbows. Is this a new thing? Just wondering.
Have the message 'not proficient with martial weapons or hand crossbows' on the weapon
description.

Bards are naturally proficient with hand crossbows. Check if a mod is causing you issues.

Using no mods. Seems there is a problem with multi classing going on.

As in: you did not select bard as first class?

Some proficiencies only come at level 1 when you start a character in that class. Multi-classing later gives some proficiencies, but not necessarily all of them that would have been gained at level 1.

Bard does not grant hand crossbow as a multi-class proficiency. (Other examples include that multi-classing into fighter or paladin does not grant heavy armor.)
