An Annoying Bug That Hasn't Been Fixed For at Least A Year
With or without mod, my character's portrait of the inspiration page always be replaced by a black man. This bug has existed for a long long time. When Larian will fix it?

Who else has that issue? I haven't seen this issue.

Only custom protagonists will encounter this problem. Origin characters seem will not encounter this problem. Judging from the time of posting by people who have encountered similar problems, this bug has existed for at least a year. Are you sure you have never seen it?

It would be too time-consuming to remove all the mods and start over from the beginning. Detailed game testing should be the responsibility of the game company's testing department - since so many game users claim to have encountered similar problems (there are many posts about this issue on Reddit and other forums, and some people - including me - have encountered similar problems without using any mods).
In addition, I also think that the game company has a responsibility to ensure that the game content is not interfered with by the residual files of the previous version or the uninstalled mods, and should not pass the trouble to the players.

Nonsense. You modded the game. It is entirely your personal responsibility.
No one told you to mod the game.
The point is, I also had this problem last year without any experience with mods, and Larian has not reported that this problem has been fixed.

It seems that it comes down to something on your configuration, mods or no if it was happening to you last year.

There are a million things that can be different from one PC to the next and any of those things can cause an outlier issue. Even mod managers for other games can affect BG3. That's one of the pitfalls of playing PC games. I doubt this is something Larian could fix for you.

Examine everything that you've done to your PC and the installation of BG3. If you changed Steam default settings for game installations or have permissions not just so on folders or have any mod managers for any game or so many other things you can do that might not even seem like it should affect anything, you need to check each thing.

:steambored:This is too unstable for a game program…

You made it "unstable" by altering it. So again: your own responsibility.

The PC environment is unstable. No developer is going to be able to predict every little thing a user does to the PC. No developer ever should beyond a reasonable point.

Given the outlier of this issue, I think the developers have done their due diligence on this.

You really need to look at your PC, not BG3.

There are tens of thousands of players still playing the game. I am one of the majority who have never had this issue. After 1200+ hrs. No mods used. Ever.

Larian has no responsibility to insure their patches will work flawlessly with all the mods that are available and/or have left baked in mod data in the base game.

The entitlement from op is too real here

It seems the user knows how to search, but not how to read the articles a search returns. Guess what the problem was? It's explained in this thread by someone who's been very helpful to the community.

Headline-only reading is one of the quicker ways to ignorance.

It's honestly weird to see the hostility for OP here considering there are a ton of people who experienced this bug who have never modded the game before. It feels pretty much like an excuse to say it's because of mods.

Claiming it's due to OP or people doing something to their PC, changing configs and whatnot is weird as well. If you're not modding your game, it's highly unlikely you'll be messing about with the game's configs. And if it's something like changing Steam's installation settings, then that's just weird since majority of other games function just fine with non-default settings. Even more if they're not modding the game, how likely is it that they've done something so wildly odd with their installation that it causes an issue with the game?

Not to mention some people on console have encountered the same issue.

BG3 is a great game and a bug like this isn't enough to tarnish that (portrait bugs are even funny sometimes). You don't need to bootlick this hard.

If you're searching for a solution in game, opening and closing the magic mirror or removing your armour then doing the mirror thing has been reported to help with this issue. It seems hit or miss though. Best of luck OP.

Your argument fell and crumbled the moment you assumed people on console would not use mods.

Thank you for your suggestion. According to previous experience, the magic mirror can solve this bug in the second or third chapter. I have reported this problem to Larian, although I believe that someone has already reported it. It is difficult for people on the Internet to trust each other. I don't have high expectations for this. After all, arguing in English is really tiring, and I don't have that much time. I like this game and hope that all bugs will be fixed.

I have this same bug on the Xbox version. No mods ever installed.

OP can you clarify that you are talking about the character portrait on the Inspiration tab (as you stated in your main post) or if you are talking about the character portrait in the UI as pictured in one of the posts on page 1?

Because I can confirm, the character portrait on the Inspiration tab has ALWAYS been a race and gender default since launch. That half-orc woman is NOT me.
