There are a million things that can be different from one PC to the next and any of those things can cause an outlier issue. Even mod managers for other games can affect BG3. That's one of the pitfalls of playing PC games. I doubt this is something Larian could fix for you.
Examine everything that you've done to your PC and the installation of BG3. If you changed Steam default settings for game installations or have permissions not just so on folders or have any mod managers for any game or so many other things you can do that might not even seem like it should affect anything, you need to check each thing.
You made it "unstable" by altering it. So again: your own responsibility.
Given the outlier of this issue, I think the developers have done their due diligence on this.
You really need to look at your PC, not BG3.

I won't say much else, I hope this problem can be fixed. @SaloAtLarian
Larian has no responsibility to insure their patches will work flawlessly with all the mods that are available and/or have left baked in mod data in the base game.
Headline-only reading is one of the quicker ways to ignorance.
Claiming it's due to OP or people doing something to their PC, changing configs and whatnot is weird as well. If you're not modding your game, it's highly unlikely you'll be messing about with the game's configs. And if it's something like changing Steam's installation settings, then that's just weird since majority of other games function just fine with non-default settings. Even more if they're not modding the game, how likely is it that they've done something so wildly odd with their installation that it causes an issue with the game?
Not to mention some people on console have encountered the same issue.
BG3 is a great game and a bug like this isn't enough to tarnish that (portrait bugs are even funny sometimes). You don't need to bootlick this hard.
If you're searching for a solution in game, opening and closing the magic mirror or removing your armour then doing the mirror thing has been reported to help with this issue. It seems hit or miss though. Best of luck OP.
Your argument fell and crumbled the moment you assumed people on console would not use mods.
Because I can confirm, the character portrait on the Inspiration tab has ALWAYS been a race and gender default since launch. That half-orc woman is NOT me.
