So what is the best way to get mods now?
I really haven't played in months and only came back because I heard that there is now mod support. So, how's the launcher these days? Is installing mods easier, and is it an improvement over using Nexus Mods?

the in-game mod stuff is great, keeps stuff updated, rolls you back to previous versions if need be on old saves, much easier to use than Nexus mods.
It's just whether or not someone has uploaded the mod you're looking for

You can install mods via the in-game mod manager (avaliable at the main menu without any prerequisites). However, mod developers have to upload their mods there. If you want mods like playing as a satyr[www.nexusmods.com], you'll have to go through nexus for now.

If you decide to go through nexus, where a majority of mods are, BG3 Mod Manager[github.com] is recommended by a good portion of people.

Mods you can find in the in-game mod manager can be found on nexus.

In-game mod versions often have issues that the nexus mod versions do not.

I use about 12 mods (cut down on the number to keep maintenance easy) and at least 3 of them have severe issues if you use the in-game versions instead of the nexus mod versions.

Also some mods exist only on the nexus website.

This is because larian version of mods works completely differently and pretty much requires mod makers to rewrite their mods from zero using much more complicated/complex tools - as far as the mod makers explain, its often not worth the hassle to learn it all and remake all their mods in these new tools.

There is also the issue where, if the mod is hosted on both Nexus and the in-game mod manager, the various third party mod managers kind of freak out. The solution is to uninstall the nexus version and install the in-game version. You can still use your favorite third party mod manager to manage the load order.

I see thank you very much for the replies
I guess I will just keep using the 3rd party launcher until the in game one is more stable and has more stuff
