Whelp, Larian's BG3 is now based off a legacy version of D&D. The new PHB 2024 dropped for pre-orders on D&D Beyond today. You must have master tier subscription for early access. Meanwhile the basic rules are still free.

Why? You keep hanging around here, so it's clear you don't think D&D should be forgotten.

It's kinda half-and-half, since 5.24 implements variations of some fairly popular changes/houserules featued in BG3 like weapons having more unique properties and bonus actions to drink potions being an actual rule now.

He is right: Forget D&D.

There are better alternatives.

And no: BG3, while based on D&D, isn't the same. The direction D&D went into, including how they approached mixed/half races? They are doing a bad job and there are tons of other PnP's which do a better job and don't change things for worse, but better.

Ability scores being tied to background?!?
Have you seen how race specific abilities are treated? That's a power creep, of the bad kind.

Ohh right, it's not "race" anymore, it's "species". I forgot about that silly change.

WotC have shown, edition after edition, they are doing more harm than good.

So yes: forget about D&D

I was thinking up a good response then I saw your post, spot on mate.

Dungeons and Dragons is nothing like it use to be, its no longer about adventure, its about woke and political correctness. We can see it in their products, literally everything has taken a backseat to the woke movement.

And like I've said so many times the markets always self-correct. There is still a demand for good DnD adventure and other studios will pick up where WotC failed. It's happening with movies\TV, video games and comics.

It's a perfect example of corporations who actually believed they were too big to fail and could not just control public opinion, but shape it to anything they want. Scary stuff!

From the 2024 PHB:
The three main pillars of D&D play are social interaction, exploration, and combat.

Sounds like 'adventure' to me.

Define "Woke".

What does that even mean? D&D is basically just a premade ruleset that you can use to tell an interactive story. Is it "woke" to pick a class? Is it "woke" to roll dice? What are you even talking about? What even is "woke"?

Edit: Also, you only played this game for a total of 2.7 hours, and that was over a year ago. Why are you still here? What are you doing with your time and your life?

Whatever you like.

My group decided we will jump off from a boat which started to burn itself down, because it wanted to please someone who is not even on-board. That was 8 years ago, when they first started to show their colors.

The time people created half/mixed races? Gone. No more roleplaying regarding that.
Backgrounds being more important? Yeah, clearly people are not understanding the implications of that, otherwise they would be more upset, clearly showing that most of you have never touched a proper campaign and most likely only played BG3 using some guide on optimizing your characters.

Casuals will love those changes:

Every class and "race" (I will not stop using that term, but regarding DnD it's false, they changed it) will be able to do everything at the same time, with no downsides.

"Ohh, we lack an healer? No issues, my character has "Healer" as Origin. He will cover that spot till we are so overpowered we don't require any form of healing anymore because it's insanely good early on"

https://dungeonsanddragonsfan.com/new-2024-dnd-feats/#:~:text=Origin%20Feats%20are%20a%20new,the%20Background%20you%20have%20selected.

"Ohh look, I have taken "Magic Initiate" as my Origin, which allows me to use my Cha/Int/Wis as my spellcasting modifier! Times are gone I was barely hitting my Cantrips!"

"Our group does a lot of bad decisions, but thanks to us picking "Musician" we can now spam "Heroic Inspiration" and make every form of decision a joke, rolled bad once for something important? HAHAHA, not with my Origin!"

You even got "Tavern Brawler" as an ORIGIN FEAT. A feat which is so freaking important to many classes and playstyles which enables them in the first place. So just having some Origin you magically are able to become so strong the game is not fun anymore for the rest of your team because you have become "godly".

DnD is dead.

You claim otherwise? Filthy casual who has no clues.
