And yes, the savegames should be compatible. There has only been one instance since the game launch that i can recall where a patch broke compatibility for savegames - and it was temporary.
As with all patches, it will cause issues
That's not true according to Larian,
"We’re working on our next game update, Patch 7, which will add improved evil endings to the game for even darker conclusions to your most sinister playthroughs, and yes, that includes you non-Durge players."
Same.
I've had saves that ran fine before and after a major patch with 50 or so mods installed at least twice.
Don't count on that happening, of course- there's always the possibility at least some mods breaking in any major patch. It's just not nearly as unstable as some people make it out to be in my experience.
In any case, patch 7 is supposed to be coming out this coming week anyway, so if you've waited this long to start, you can probably afford to wait until it releases to start a new game.
Oh i missed that last part. But that's seems to be only about the endings, so unlikely to miss anything unless OP is speedrunning the game.
I have two multiplayer runs going and all are three months or more in. My wife and I will not even be able to finish our run much less the one I have with my friends.
We will be starting over once again...
