Knocking Minthara off in a Goblin Camp question
My first playthrough. I'm in a goblin camp. I acidentally heard before that you can miss Minthara as a companion. So I googled and I'm confused. Some people said you have to choose to either recruit a Minthara or Halsin. Then there were comments saying you can 'now' recruit both, but it's ridiculosly specific: you need to kill Gut Priestess, then rescue Halsin from the cell, do not let him join you immediately, go steal something from Minthara to make her temporary hostile, use non-lethal attacks to knock her out, then go kill the other goblin boss, and then you'll be able to rescue Minthara in ACT2 and have Halsin as a companion, too.
And then there are another comments saying they, AGAIN, changed something.

I don't understand what is the relevant thing today, can anyone explain?
And why does it look so hard to recruit her? And what exactly does it mean 'to knock her out with non-lethal attacks' - do I slap her a thousand times to reduce her HP to 0 or how exactly does it work? And won't the entire goblin camp become hostile if I attack her? There's someone else near her, plus the eye.
I want to get both her and Halsin in my team.

Long story short: the story scripts allow you to recruit only Minthara or Halsin, anything else makes no sense storywise. Minthara is however a fan favourite, and people who do not want to miss out on her regardless of story discovered an exploit to get both, despite it is never intended like that. Because of her being a fan favourite, the developers acknowledged that fact and left the exploit available instead of patching it.

That leads us to the confusion you are having. The guide above explains the how you can make use of the exploit reliably. But if you play the game for the first time, you should consider using it. Best would have been not being spoiled by the knowledge that you could have them both. But then again: the developers left the exploit because they love the fans and it was quite a trick to discover the exploit to begin with. Especially from a story standpoint view.

This guide seems complicated to a new person. Here is what I do and it works for me. Get the quest to kill goblin bosses. Head into the camp. When you kill the goblin bosses, make sure not to long rest after you down the 1st one and don't go into Halsins cell and free him. When it comes down to Minthara, I just tell here in dialog I am going to stop her. Combat happens. I toggle non lethal for the last hit and knock her out. finish the other boss and head to Halsin's cell. Do that bit of combat and free halsin. Then in Act 2, make sure when you go to the tower and find the throne room, cut scene happens, then go to the prison below. She will be in a cell, talk to her, free her and you are good to go. Main points. Knock her out, but don't long rest until the bosses and Halsin is free, and she should be in Act 2 in the tower prison cell.

No its actually quite simple and youre not forced to do it in a specific way. Outside of not killing Minthara of course.

Most importantly is that you kill the other 2 Bosses first. For her to survive you need to finish the "Beat the Goblins" Mission and those 2 are on the List aswell. So just kill the Priestess and Dror Ragzlin how you like. Up to you entirely, you can also use Halsim all the time, he might be in your way to beat Minthara unconcious doe (as a Bear, not in Human form)

Then you go to Minthara and activate "non-lethal attacks". I use a Controller and its in the first Wheel, a Button that looks like a Head being beaten with a Stick, its turned off by Default. No Idea how you find it without Controller but it should be obvious and visible.

Personally I prefer to kill all the Others off first so they dont chip away free Health from your Team. Also bring Minthara down to around 50-30% HP here with anything you want. From here on only use Weapons on her, no magic, no DoT effects like Burning, no Poison, etc. If you have non-lethal active and attack her with Weapons then even a 30+ Krit will not kill her on 5 HP, she will become permanently unconcious instead and lie there with 1 HP. Obviously doing anything else here kills her.

Once shes knocked out the Quest should be done. Tell Halsim youre finished and leave via Quicktravel. I long rested here aswell.

Done this 2 Times now and it worked both times. The first time me and a Friend went scorched Earth in the Camp, second time I got in with Charisma and True Soul ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
I am good in both of them, we saved the Grove and Halsim is alive and well. Sure he bugs out a bit in Camp but it works

So, as short as possible: Activate non-lethal, use Weapons only, no magic, and go for Minthara last in the Quest. Everything else doesnt matter as long as shes KO and you finish the Quest

this is what you do

1 find minthara in the temple/goblin camp in act 1
2 go to your passives tab and turn on non-lethal attacks
3 attack minthara and get temporary hostile, proceed to knock her out with melee attacks, DO NOT ATTACK HER WITH RANGE OR MAGIC
4 once minthara is unconscious, loot the spider lyre
5 turn off non-lethal and proceed to kill the other 2 leaders
6 proceed to act 2 and head to moonrise towers, minthara should be there
7 go to the prison (she is in a separate room with 2 goblins) and recruit minthara

she wont be in a cell, she is in a completely separate room in the prison

Since every other person so far has told a different story, here's what I do. It works 100% of the time.

1) Do not make the goblin camp hostile. As long as you don't attack/kill Dror, and you don't let them bang their war drums, you can kill as many of them (or as few of them) as you like, and only the ones that see you do it will turn hostile. This includes Gut. But it does NOT include Dror. Fighting Dror will turn the whole camp hostile.

2) You can free Halsin first. I always do. But I do not take him with me. I leave him cooling his jets in the warg pen area.

3) Typically I kill nearly (or entirely) every goblin in the place except for the ones in the room with Minthara and the ones in the room with Dror. You can rest or long rest all you want during this process. Specifically, though, you should kill Gut.

4) Now I make sure I long rest, so I'm completely topped up. Also, unless you turned her hostile, you can still trade anything with Roah.

5) I go in to the area with Minthara. Do anything you want to make her temporarily hostile. Steal something. Attack one of her goblin buddies. Best choice is to go up to the war drum and destroy it. That turns them hostile *and* makes sure they can't call for help.

6) Turn on non-lethal attacks. Be aware that ranged and magic damage (including things like magic effects on melee weapons) will still be lethal. Bring Minthara to 0 HP. You should see her on the ground with little "stars" whirling around her head, indicating she is knocked out.

7) Kill all goblins and the floating eye. It you knocked out any goblins, attack them again, but with non-lethal turned off. Be very careful of AOE or accidentally killing Minthara.

8) You can loot anything you want, including her lyre if you want to use it in Act 2.

9) Then, without taking a long rest, go into the room with Dror. You can talk to him, help him do his spell, whatever. In the end, though, you need to fight and kill him. This will turn all remaining goblins hostile.

10) With Gut and Dror dead, and Minthara knocked out, you can go back to Halsin. Tell him the leaders are all taken care of. He will leave.

11) At this point you can just fast-travel back to the grove if you want, or you can fight your way out past any goblins remaining. I usually do the latter, just to avoid feeling cheesy about fast-travelling from inside the area.

12) I don't know if it is necessary or not, but I never long rest between knocking out Minthara and going to the grove to collect my rewards. Then I long rest (go to the party).

At that point Minthara should be gone, and you'll see her again in Act 2 at Moonrise Towers.

Thank the gods they're updating this in the next patch.

What needs fixed? The patch note is pretty vague on it. "She will react when you knock her out in Act 1". In what way? Does not say you can't knock her out. Does she complain, get back up after you knock her out, etc.??

It's not a exploit to knock her unconscious and then later free her at the Moonrise Towers from the prison. It's a scripted way to get her and still play a good char in the game.

It works perfectly if you do it right and you can still kill every single Goblin there.

you added 5 unneeded steps and made a long winded version of what i said, you dont even need to do steps 2-4, you can literally go into the camp, go to the temple, find minthara, turn on non-lethal, knock her out, turn off non-lethal. Step 8 is a joke considering you need the spider lyre to summon the dryder in act 2. If you dont know how to clear the goblin camp without doing a long rest you need to stop giving advice

So by long resting and doing other stuff while leaving Dror Ragzlin for last and Minthara knocked out for the entire time i screwed everything up?
She's not anymore there knockedout, anywhere to be seen.

Truth to be told, it’s a bit sad that any form of recruitment of Minthara need metagaming, even if you’re evil (but for profit reasons side with the tieflings).

You need it to know that side with goblins bring no bemefits and just screw you.

That doing that make you lose 2 companions at least and maybe more.

That evil options can be perused if you side with the tieflings/druids.

That she can be recruited if you knock her out, a feature that have absolutely no use otherwise except for a very few other moments or to metagaming 100% pickpocket on merchants.
Gamefever Sep 1, 2024 @ 7:17am
Recruiting minthara easy now.

Before getting hellsin druid, just knock out minthara.
Use a thunder spell on scyer or throw it in put.
Throw down silence to prevent warnings.

Clear that whole area real quite like.

Later in act 2 you sneak into Tower I think before visit Harper town. Not hard just take a little damage maybe. But u can get right I to tower and talk up everyone visit venders spring minthara etc.

Not hard at all don't need special guide.

I want to get both her and Halsin in my team.

I'm not sure any of that is necessary. I just knock her out non-lethally while clearing out the camp, and that is enough for her to be recruited in act 2 doing a good play through.
RollerPig Sep 1, 2024 @ 3:30pm
Since patch 6 you can do the goblin quest as you probably would've done normally.

Agree with Minthara feigning being absolutists to betray the grove and open the gates. She will leave the goblin camp for the grove. Kill preistess gut and dror Razglin (you dont have to but if you dont they will be at the fight at the grove)

You can knock her out at that fight as well its just a bit more dicey. She can take hits from the teiflings or incidental AoE damage.

its not that bad as she is the farthest away and usually the last to attack but you can ( I have) knock her out at the "defend the grove" quest and recruit her in act 2.

You DO still have to make sure the other 2 goblin leaders are dead before long resting or Minty will be gone for good
