Can't publish mods locally with the toolkit
It just doesn't create a .pak file like it should. I don't understand why. The message log says it worked, but there's no .pak file.

I've tried it in two different folders on two different drives with two different mods multiple times and no .pak file is ever created. I've even run Steam with admin privileges, in case it was a permissions issue - no dice.

The mods work fine in the testing environment (or whatever you wanna call it), it's just the publishing that doesn't work.

Hm. I can only imagine that the toolkit needs to be run as admin as well. Though that is rare that it is stubborn as that. I might need to take a closer look myself, as I have not used the toolkit myself yet.

Just to clarify: there is nothing in

...\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\Data\Mods\MyMod\Data\Generated\Public\ and alike?
(might be in one of the parent foldera)

There are some folders there and even some pak files (base game stuff), but not THE pak files I'm trying to generate.

I'll try running the toolkit as admin, thanks.

Running as admin also did not work. I'm just at a complete loss. I'm not the only one having this problem, but it seems nobody knows how to actually fix it because it's so rare.

Someone suggested it could be having non-English characters in the User folder. I'm hoping BELGIAN devs didn't forget that there are languages other than English, but...

Do you know how to fix this?

If it is about the Windows user folder, I would recommend setting up a new Windows folder with Roman alphabet only.

It is a little of a hassle, but that way you can easily bypass the issue.

Are you otherwise unable to create any mod files at all? Because that irritates me most, as it should not affect it in any way, considering the Steam folder -default- never allows any other characters but Roman alphabet characters.

Doesn't that require setting up a new account altogether? My C drive is already very full, since every developer and their mother shovels a bunch of ♥♥♥♥ in there instead of the folder where their software is actually installed.

I am unable to create any mod files using the toolkit, yes.

My bad. I meant Windows user.

Creating a new Windows user creates only a new user profile. No need to reinstall Windows or alike. So basically the procedure is similar to when making a new Windows user profile for modding.

No need for a new Windows account or such, as you can make a local Windows user without any Microsoft connectivity.

Once you figured it out if it works or not, you can safely erase that Windows user profile. Should not take more space than maybe 200 MB at maximum.

I'll try it out, thanks. Someone else reported that this did, in fact, work for them, so I'm hopeful.

Very annoyed that we're a quarter of the way into the 21st century and this ♥♥♥♥ still happens.

Indeed. And it is a rare occurance too, as in: it would not be noticable unless one of the debuggers had intentionally setup their users with special characters. I am not affected either since I have that habit to avoid special characters from the get go due to working with Linux.

Also, I tried to reproduce the issue you have as far as I can. Normally the mod should appear in the mentioned folders, and depending on how you set it up, creating a copy in your userprofile folder.

So it might be indeed related to the special character. I wish you good luck, and I am following this thread for a while with the intention to see the issue resolved. If it gets resolved by the workaround, the better as it helps with the bug reporting.

Yup, NOW it worked.

This is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid, though.

Indeed. Time to make a bug report then. If you could also send one to support@larian.com with the details of your profile name, maybe they can understand it quicker.

Hard to believe why such a bug still can exists these days.

Already wrote a bug report. I don't want to swamp them with duplicate reports, though, so I'll leave it at that.

That is great. Then they have at least yours and mine to figure it out. :MHRISE_OK:
Thanks!

Faced exactly the same problem. The mod (*.pak) is not created locally. There is Cyrillic in my user's name. As I understand from your dialogue, this is the problem. Have the developers contacted you guys?
Столкнулся точно с такой же проблемой. Не создаётся локально мод (*.pak). В имени моего пользователя есть кириллица. Как я понял из вашего диалога в этом проблема. Народ, с вами связывались разработчики?

They said they were on it. That's all I know.
