Modding issue with Patch 7
Mods appear to completely stop the game from loading correctly.
For clarity - I used to mod quite extensively prior to Patch 7, but once it dropped I made a clean reinstallation (cleaning out AppData, Steam directory, running it via Revo Uninstaller etc.), since It was honestly easier and more surefire than trying to manually hunt down every single modification.
The issue is with mods provided via in-game mod manager added with Patch 7. Without any of them, game works perfectly fine but when I tried to mod it via the new tool, it refused to load into new game, or load the game alltogether when I tried closing and relaunching (freezing on around 80%-90%). Purging the AppData file for Larian studios does fix the issue.

So I suppose it's not really a problem-problem, since the game works fine as long as I do not mod it, but rather a broad question wether I'm missing something that makes the game brick itself when I add mods via the in-game mod manager. Which, y'know, seems tad weird since the big part of the update was mod support.

It depends on the mods, many still work as they are, some other's dont work and need to be updated.

Anyway, before reinstalling, did you delete the appdata folder and the steamapps folder?

Yup. AppData, steamapps. Full purge. Didn't want to leave anything to chance there.

You stated you are "using" the in-game mod manager. Does that mean you're loading outdated mods from Nexus, simply using the official mod manager, or are you actually using the in-game menu to find and download mods?

In the former case, outdated means outdated; wait for an update to the mods before using them.

If the latter is the case, have you checked multiple mods, or just a couple? Just because a mod is hosted on the in-game browser instead of Nexus doesn't mean that it isn't broken. A lot of those were created during the Patch 7 beta, so they're not necessarily any safer than mods created for Patch 6.

Some officially hosted mods might not be compatible with each other have you tried starting with just one mod.

What you are describing is a typical permission issue. Weirdly enough it is a recurring issue for certain groups of people. Normally it goes away once you launch the game related executables as admin.

However, I still recommend working with backups, so you do not really have to go through the hassle of uninstall/reinstall whenever you attempt to mod your game. Saves nerves and time. :mhwgood:

I meant that I'm using the in-game menu to find and download mods.

And your other half of the comment is right. On a hunch I started to add mods one by one and try to start a game and so far it's all working fine. So it turns out it was just one or few of the mods that were the issue, now the trick is to pinpoint the turd, so to speak.

Honestly, kind of embarrassed that I did not think of something this obvious earlier. ._.
