Game Wont Allow Me To Start With Unofficial Mods
i was super excited to jump back in to bg3 with patch 7. i spent the past day or 2 of free time getting mods ready for the playthrough but the game just tells me "cant start a game, please turn off unofficial mods"(im paraphrasing here)

does this mean ill never be able to play unless the mod becomes an OFFICIAL mod? does this mean i HAVE to use the mods from the in game mod manager?

im aware that modders need time to update their mods for patch 7 but does this mean if they dont set their mod as an "official mod" that we wont be able to use it anymore?

Correct. Unofficial mods are not supported and unless every single mod that you're using gets updated by the mod author (no promises that's happening) for patch 7, then any saves using un-updated unofficial mods, will most likely be broken and unplayable. In some cases using un-updated and unofficial mods will cause the game to become unplayable.

You can do one of a few things:

Cross your fingers, wait and pray that every mod you use gets updated by the mod authors for patch 7.

Do a clean install with no mods and play vanilla.

Do a clean install and only add on updated unofficial mods (may be broken by future hot fixes though).

Do a clean install and use only official mods from the internal Mod Manager.

You can still use unofficial mods I have several reinstalled already but when the patch first dropped I couldn't even load to the title screen. Had to uninstall, scrub then reinstall and am now working my way back by only using the ones updated after the 5th on nexus.

It is not about mods being unofficial or official. Some (and only some) mods simply break the game after Patches and needs to be updated or removed.

There will be many mods that will always be "Unofficial" because Larian library does not support NSFW mods and there is plenty of them.

Seeing all the preventable issues people having, the list needs in addition the point to make backups when playing modded.

Like: why would anyone not want the peace of mind, that mods can never break with future updates? It is easy and the only hindrance I can think of is lack of storage space. But keeping the backup on a cheap USB stick is sufficient.

One thing I found is the game consistent hang or crashes when run from Steam or a Steam desktop icon, with mods

If you browse to the game folder bin and double click the .exe bg3_dx11.exe or bg3.exe (vulkan version) it works perfectly every time with or without mods

Or just use BG3MM where you can uninstall with few clicks any mods that you had without your game being "tainted"
