Modding toolkit description makes it sound rather limited.
Spells, classes, "dice skins" and weapons and armor? That's it? No custom dialogue? No new characters? No custom locations? No audio? No scripting?

Perhaps there is more to the toolkit than what is actually listed, but if that really is all there is to it then what is even the point? Why would I waste my time modding BG3 with such ridiculously limited possibilities?

There is some scripting support, but yes, it's otherwise pretty gimped. The tools are underpowered compared to D:OS2's, and it's generally considered "bad" to have objectively worse tools than your predecessor. I don't see great things coming from the toolset, personally.

if this is true, then I feel bad for all the good mods now in que to be updated and basically bricked a lot of people's saves

Its pretty fully featured but its also a bit unintuitive to navigate and the documentation still isn't finished

It looks more like their own internal tool since the UI is very nondescript and most of it loops back into map editing and scripting, stuff involving assets is pretty oddly implemented and I still can't find out how to export assets from it after looking for a few hours
