Please help! When trying to join my friends game we're getting this error pop-up || ERROR Joining failed: can't join this game right now!

My friend has been hosting the game. We have been using her save file for months now. Yeah, there have been bugs and issues, but we've never had this one specifically. This is happening right after the update that got pushed today. Has anyone else found a fix for this?

After my friend created the room, we skipped past the create a character screen, then we skipped the starting cinematic and loaded the previous save. This worked first time without an issue.

We did try making another save file and loading it to see if the error would stop popping up, but it still does. This means you have to direct connect, start a fresh game, skip past the character creation screen and starting cinematic, then load the save you want to play.

That is a huge pain in the butt, but it works. I haven't been able to play with my friend for 2 weeks now, so I'll call this a win.

Edit 2: There was a patch today on the 19th. I have yet to test if this fixed the issue, but I'll update you when me and my friend have time to play the game again.

I was able to fix this error message. The save file host was in camp and there was a major story cut scene during the night. After the host completed the long rest and cut scene and went back out to the main map I was able to join. Unfortunately, the host had to fill me in on what I missed.

Just adding to the mix leads to nothing if you did not attempt the mentioned solution.

Same issue here, not able to join my friend's lobby or load our saved campaign.

I was having this same issue until I read on here to have the host start a brand new campaign, invite everyone, make random characters, and then once everyone is loaded into the new campaign the host just needs to load the old save file and it will put everyone back with their previous characters where you left off. It worked for me, and we only needed to do it once and then could load the campaign again from there on out. Hope it works for you guys!

This one works. it seems you can't create a multiplayer party while at camp before long rest.

Having the same issue. Our playthrough is in honor mode and we just got to the wyrms lookout camp where the party gets ambushed before we enter act 3. cant find the wardrobe of wayward friends and we cant join because we have no bodies to join onto.
