Please help! When trying to join my friends game we're getting this error pop-up || ERROR Joining failed: can't join this game right now!

My friend has been hosting the game. We have been using her save file for months now. Yeah, there have been bugs and issues, but we've never had this one specifically. This is happening right after the update that got pushed today. Has anyone else found a fix for this?

My friends and I just had the same issue. We fixed it by joining through multiplayer lobby and entering the host's Direct ID code and we were able to finally join!

After my friend created the room, we skipped past the create a character screen, then we skipped the starting cinematic and loaded the previous save. This worked first time without an issue.

We did try making another save file and loading it to see if the error would stop popping up, but it still does. This means you have to direct connect, start a fresh game, skip past the character creation screen and starting cinematic, then load the save you want to play.

That is a huge pain in the butt, but it works. I haven't been able to play with my friend for 2 weeks now, so I'll call this a win.

Edit 2: There was a patch today on the 19th. I have yet to test if this fixed the issue, but I'll update you when me and my friend have time to play the game again.

Ok So i'm back. Apparently, we are having trouble with multiple games today. It may not be a Larian or BG3 issue, but a STEAM issue. We don't know what is going on but multiple games wont let each other (of us, my friends and I) join each other. The ONLY game we got to work was Phasmophobia.

Having same issue I am the one getting the error as well, I have tried resetting files and that didn't fix either.

Unable to play multiplayer I tried resting files as well as launching the browser without steam and using the direct connect code from the multiplayer in game.

try starting a new game and join that together. once you are in a party, get your friend to load the original game save and see if that works.

It does seem there's a multiplayer issue currently. Report it to Larian via their website for reporting issues on BG3.

Party member was unable to join in during our last save of the last fight — in a red area. We loaded a savefile from way before that was a neutral area, had the player join, then reloaded that last savefile and they stayed in the party and we were able to continue onward to the fight. Same issue here. Friend and I have been playing together for many months. Since the patch, we tried to join today and every attempt - Error: Connection Failed.

We have never used any mods and have none installed. Very frustrating.
