patch 7 bulette fight
patch 7 brought a lot of cool things, but honour mode also got a lot harder with a bunch of bosses being given legendary actions. I missed getting to the Bulette in time before patch started, and now it takes no damage from any hit below 15 and has 100 temp hit points. Does anyone have any advice on killing it? (I know it's optional, but I want to for the exp for later)

Considering rooting around for a downpatch.

Berserker, Tavern Brawler, strength elixir, returning pike. Boring, I know, but it still totally deletes everything, including this boss. (20+ damage consistently, and the Bulette only has resistance against non-magical weapons)
The good part is that once it burrows and runs, the shield won't come back for subsequent encounters.

Pretty sure people are just giving generic or old Honor Mode Bulette tips: CC, spells, Glut and a minion won't help put out damage over 15 in a single hit which is the only way to damage it, and you need to do that 6.5 times.

I did it on the old Honor Mode and it was no issue. Doing a new run with the patch and it's basically impossible without cheese.

Only thing I found that could crack the shell is grabbing up all the Smokepowder Barrels in the locked room in the Goblin Temple, kamikazing with a character separated from the party. Even then Smokepowder Barrel has a reflex save for half, so even a 25 damage roll can be negated.

I used 5 Smokepowder Barrels and it got Bulette to 11 temp HP, and then a GWM Smite crit finally allowed the actual damage to hit and the standard CC and swarm strat works. Incredibly overtuned

This is what I was afraid of. 15 is an insanely high number for a single hit at around level 6-7. I saw one person manage it with a min-maxed storm sorcerer's lightning bolt (taking advantage of the wet condition). He had to haste and cast two a turn for about 3 turns before getting rid of the temp HP. Then the Bulette burrowed and healed (but didn't recover the temp HP) and he killed it on the second attempt.

But a powerful Lae'zel warrior build basically couldn't get through at all, and an astarion rogue only managed to do damage with a first sneak attack hit.

So I found two viable ways, one very cheesy and the other not.

1. With Beastmaster Bear, a Divination Wizard you can 100% guarantee drop Voss' Silver Sword of the Astral Plains in his encounter at the bridge. With Elixir of Hill Giant Strength and a Battlemaster Fighter or Paladin, you can now do enough damage with your attacks to bust 15.

2. Non-cheesy: Shadowheart or a Druid can Create Water on Bulette. A level 5 Druid can cast Call Lightning, which will guaranteed double because of the water. It can then be channeled for 10 turns, regularly blowing past his Diamond Scales.

I don't see how you guarantee the sword drop. Can you walk us through that?

Sorry for the late reply: Divination gets Portent Dice which can be added to rolls.

The Bear summoned by a Beastmaster Ranger has Honeyed Paws, which is 100% drop chance if it connects. A Divination Wizard with a Portent dice of 12 or above stored can add it to the Bear's roll to 100% ensure Honeyed Paws connects.

Voss drops his sword and leaves on his dragon.

Throwing water on it and then bombarding it with electric attacks worked for me... I gave both Lae'Zel and Karlach as big hitting weapons as I could find, and was amused to see that yes, you can trip the Bulette, giving other hits until it's turn advantage.

Just heap on the damage as hard as you can and worry less about defending. Keep spread out so it can't hit more than two people at once and once you get it to run away, great! If you can kill it, even better.

Spore servant minotaur triggers bulette's aggro due to his terrirotial trait and also does tons of damage.

Any archer with sharpshooter and GWM melee character.

Water+lightning and ice.

Its really not that hard to damage these 100hp and after that its easy.

It's not.

Like I said in a separate thread on this, I killed it the first time it appeared with the diamond scales, before it had a chance to go back underground. I had a rogue who sneak attacked it and IIRC got some other timely crits that got past the 15 damage threshold.

The second time I tried it with the diamond scales, I had a lot less luck. I think it appeared 4-5 times before I finally finished it off. (One of those times I just watched it fight hook horrors.)

Wet condition and 2 lightning bolt scrolls took him out -- twice now.

A few good hits with a strength potioned up battlemaster armed with the Titanstring Bow did it as well (but was harder as it takes several good hits).

Funny thing - Titanstring bow is the best bow for any character as long as you also drink a hill giant or cloud giant strength potion. It still deals your dex modifier as well

Hit it till it dies

Make sure to be lvl 5 at least:
Sharpshooter + dual wield xbow
Great weapon master with 2h sword
Tavern brawler + monk or returning pike
Water + lightning bolt/call lightning
Fireball and hope for failed save

The above can consistently deal 15+ damage.
