If you're using BG3MM, install the same mods and make sure they're in the same loading order.
I would say "just install", because they are activated automatically upon installation, like in other games through Workshop, you subscribe and the mod is active. Here you can also deactivate them, but they are active by default upon installation. Just a detail.
I've completely gave up on that, the in-built mod manager has most things you want anyway. But if people still use this, they should pay attention to both "mod managers", since some mods do appear on both and they seem sometimes incompatible, so it's better to use the one from the in-built mod manager, rather than the BG3MM version of the same mod.
I only play multiplayer and run heavily modded games that tend to crush the players into terrible struggling leaving them in tears. We have to reload frequently since every fight could wipe the party. We only play LAN direct connection (via VPN).
None of us have enabled or use the in game mm. We make sure we have the same files in our mods folder (you can have additional ones. The key is we share out the hosts modsettings.lsx files to all the players which when it checks against it see all the same animal and goes right to the game, no fuss.
