Throwing Weapons Builds?
How would you (personally you, I'm looking for opinions/ideas), build a throw based character? I'm thinking with like, all the daggers and throwable axes and throw weapons.

What way would you build them?

9 Berserker, 3 Thief. Returning Pike until you get Nyrulna. Lots of equipment revolve around reverberation application with your thunder damage, so it's pretty amazing with Nyrulna throw builds.

If enemies don't die, they prone, daze, take extra thunder damage, or take a massive penalty to saving throws for Con, Dex and Str. It's hilarious just being able to delete things on a fight.

Throwing enemies and using enemies as improvised melee weapons is amazing. Partly for assured prone and partly because its just hilarious.

But the emphasis there is just that there is minimal reason to not use a stash of daggers, javelins, spears, light hammers, and throwing axes over some flavorful bound weapon. In fact limiting yourself to a bound weapon that is a competent throwing weapon seems pretty crippling.

Like its cute RP to be able to bound a spear that you can also throw - But why not just throw a random spear? The versatility in regards to damage types and throw arcs alone is reason enough to have mundane throwing weapons in inventory. And since they are reusable with even goblins having multiple throwing weapons they are abundant.

To add some additional reason to prefer mundane throwing weapons...

I've experienced thrown weapons becoming unretrievable or the returning Pike and Trident not returning for whatever weird engine freak out.

If there is confined terrain or weird death pits I'll frequently throw daggers and the like specifically to not lose a precious weapon due to an engine bug. Better yet to throw enemies into the pits in such scenarios too... ;)

I concur.

As you wrote: with the correct build just alone the prone status is invaluable. And combining that with a strong melee attack, it becomes even more devastating.

Having at least three strong attacks like that per turn surely makes the berserker one of the more hilarious strong classes.

Beserker Barbarian, Tavern Brawler, grab the ring from the grove vendor that increases thrown object damage by 1d4, and seek out high ground. That's basically all you need to come online, really.
I started out with this the first time, but I rebuilt into Eagle heart, because the throwing was unintentionally way too strong, due to the crushing damage targets take when you throw objects from high up (like seriously, throw a handaxe, and even on a miss, they could take like 9 damage).

You could also take Athlete to increase your jumping, make it easier to get to high ground from any position. There's a few weapons in the game made for throwing, like Returning Pike (or something along those lines), and a hammer in Act 3 (best for Dwarves, but that's a bit late to worry about). Also grab Elixirs of Collosus

My favorite are lightning jabbers you can find in Act 2 that deal additional lightning damage when thrown, I used them the whole of my second run when throwing wasn't my focus, but a viable option when I can't reach in melee. Also use Scratch to retrieve them for you during combat, enemies should mostly ignore him anyway if they have a more important target and don't have AoE.

Yes the lightning jabber is one reason why bound weapons are a valid choice. It may not be #1 at level 12, but its #1 at level 6 or 7 and for quite some time. If you are EK with a bound throwing weapon, using the dueling (+2 damage for some weapons) style brings some junk weapons (eg, a lowly dagger) from a d4 to a d4+2 which is 5 average damage, as good as a longsword or other martial d8 weapon.

Another reason why is that a sack full of ammo is annoying with the weight. Its not that much, but if you carry enough of them to throw 3/round for 4-5 rounds, its not zero. Split the diff and keep those +1 daggers, sussar dagger, shining staver of skulls type stuff to chuck and lose all the garbage that isn't at least +1.

Throwing enemy into each other is not only effective, its funny. This is one of the best parts of the game. Throwing enemy into cloud of daggers etc is even better. Those exploding guys in act 2 can be chain reacted by throwing one into another, one dies and explodes on another who explodes onto the next 2...

A proper thrower also does solid damage with thrown bottles like grease bottles. Nothing says I love you like doing 15 damage with a grease bottle that knocks them down in the puddle.

google any berserker barb throw build, you won't find like 100500 of them, there is only 1 or two.
5 berserker, 4 fighter, 3 thief
8 berserker 4 thief
12 eldritch knight

All three above are viable combinations. I prefer 12 eldritch knight myself as I prefer single class builds when possible...
Most easiest, least annoying and most boring, also immediately working from the start without special prerequirements: Eldritch Knight + Tavern Brawler
Check guide sections here on steam, there's a post with some builds (one of the most rated posts in guide section) that has a throwing spear build that is very effective.
Eldrich Knight can throw anything. Get tavern brawler and all possible STR buffs and gear which improves your throwing attacks.
Basically anything with Tavern Brawler and the gear that improves throwing damage will work.
Comedy option of Dwarf Berserker- use the returning pike you can get in act 1 until you can get the Dwarven Thrower in early Act 3.

The problem I have with the returning pike is that you lose out on utility that another weapon set could bring. Throwing a "non returning" weapon does not unequip your current weapon. So you could equip the sword of justice and cast Tyr's protection on yourself for a boost in AC and just throw the random weapons that you find.

Yep. It's a convenience thing in not needing to keep track of 17 handaxes and 12 javelins and pick them up after every fight. Plus I believe the pike does more base damage than any standard thrown weapon you can have at that point (d10 instead of d6).
That's why going to Eldritch Knight for simply ability itself to bind weapon allows you actually use good weapons as throwing fodder on top of having good melee capacity. My Lae'Zel has that Gith'yaki longsword which has bonus dmg as gith, and can also throw sword around with tavern brawler, also having double throwing per turn.
